Am I too old

I am currently mid 30's and working on CPL ,Multi and Multi IFR . The end goal been Airline Captain ( I know that will take many years). My questions is - am I too old to start my career in Aviation. Any thoughts and comments will be greatly appreciated...thanks....

MIFR Jul 2005 at 30.

First flying job Jul 2007 at 32.

you may suffer at first, have to live with less, but be warned... once bitten, you may not be able to retreat from the gig after you started. Not too many jobs give you the buzz.

Started my training when I was 29. Ill be finished in a few months and already found a job flying a King Air. Left a job making good money to do this. You only get one kick at the can. Might as well do what you want... Best of luck!!

Round these parts theres a guy who spent 25 years working for one of the provincial utilities retired then got his license and started flying. He's now in his 70's and one of the most highly respected oldtimers around. I say go for it.

If you look at companies like WJ or Jazz they have a retirement age of 65, AC 60. You’re looking about 30 years of solid work potential ahead of you. Not to mention the more time you spend in this industry the more you’ll realize there are a wealth of different flying jobs aside from the airlines that may suit your lifestyle better that pay very well.
At WJ we have hired a couple of retired airline pilots who want to spend the last 5 years flying, so I don’t think you starting at 35ish is going to be a problem.

Go for it, just know what your getting into.

I finished my flight training in 2000, age 32, spent the next few years in debt so deep I couldn't afford the entry level jobs in the biz. Perseverance (or stupidity) eventually got me my first PPC in 2006, age 38. Was it worth the wait? Maybe, Maybe not. Would I do it over again? Maybe, maybe not, but I will say I enjoy what I am doing right now.

are you planning on supporting a family? the early years won't secure you that financial income, not to mention when you fly for the big guys.


But follow your heart cause you'll regret it if you don't !
