contract work

I am looking at going to do contract work only, anywhere in Canada and different schedules, Do you guys have ever look at this option and is there money to be made. I have both M1 and M2 and over 12 yrs of experience. I see that some companies are paying for the travel and daily per diem. Need some advise!
