So WCA has 30 days to find someone willing to take on that task?

I'd be PO'd too if my boss went over my head and disciplined one of my pilots.
Good on him.
Hang in there, Jim!

Re: WCA CHIEF PILOT CALLS IT QUITS
It all depends on how Rick is connected to Dave Nowezk, if you are connected you can get an extension. What happens then? OC invalid?
I know both of them very well but not to sure if Rick is one of Dave's pals.
Remember I have had zero contact with anyone in aviation in Canada since Nowzek screwed me over on my FTU OC approval to protect a couple of his inspectors.
The bottom line is there is no real way to know if WCA can get an extension on the thirty day limit to replace a chief pilot, but one thing I do know for sure the rules and regulations and past policies mean nothing as far as what will be decided in this region under Nowzek.
I wonder why any pilot with the experience to be chief pilot would want to take on the problems this company seems to have.
I have some good friends in WCA and do not want to see them unemployed so hopefully it all gets resolved.

It will be very difficult to find someone willing to take on such a huge task for sure.
It will be an interesting 30 days.

Re: WCA CHIEF PILOT CALLS IT QUITS
Yes, very interesting.
The approval of a new chief pilot for a company that it appears has some very serious operational control problems should be treated very carefully by TC during the background check and the interview process. The last thing the industry needs is someone appointed to that position that does not have the ability to take on the responsibilities that are given to a chief pilot.
But this is the Pacific Region and all bets are off when it comes to how they make decisions, remember they approved the Operations manager that was working for Sonic Blue and in a heart beat removed his authority to hold the position after the crash of the Caravan. It is really weird that TC can approve someone for such a serious position then with no warning or reasons given just burn them .......seems the clowns at 800 Burrard couldn't run a lemonade stand for the neighboruhood children.
For sure it will be interesting.....assuming someone actually wants the job.

On the other hand, wouldn't it be a real feather in your cap to step up to the plate and actually turn that one around? Granted, it would be a massive challenge full of frustration, to be sure, but the right individual just might be able to get management onside, and I'm betting that the pilots would all fall in line behind someone who was clearly making an attempt to make their lives better. I'm not the guy, as I'm pretty happy with my new gig, but regardless, it's going to be interesting to watch...

I know the problems with this company have been discussed before, so I won't ask, but does anyone have a link to a previous thread so one could come up to speed?
Re: WCA CHIEF PILOT CALLS IT QUITS
Management better bite the bullet, hire some balls and class for CP, or watch this ship slowly sink and miss out on the Olympic gravy train and new digs at the Convention Centre.

Maybe they can hire a Sir Lankan for that position too. At least they can all speak the same language.
No one wants to work for this company. They pay crappy, they have poorly maintained equipment and the Owner is is ruthless jerk. In a climate of jobs o plenty this guy is out of luck. Good rid ens to worst coast air.

Re: WCA CHIEF PILOT CALLS IT QUITS
I would take the job for a maximum of six months and I have no doubt that I could ensure the operation was conforming to the regulations and the crews were happy with their work environment.
The problem would be after I left, how long before it went right back to the way it is now.
However I very much doubt that Dave Nowzek would approve me for the position, and for sure Rick would not be wild about the idea.
Oh, by the way I don't work for peanuts.

Yes, but Rick would be smart if he hired someone like you, to save his bussiness and turn around the company's reputation amoung the passengers and industry. There's no price limit of keeping your bussiness.....but they will shit the bed on it.

Re: WCA CHIEF PILOT CALLS IT QUITS
My way of doing these things is to meet with and fly with every pilot then ask for their individual needs and suggestions and then have the group present me with their suggestions.
By the way I have found the F.O.'s to be invaluable as a method of finding out what really goes on in the cockpits.
For sure when I was finished the employees would either get what they wanted or there would be no operation to work for.
One last comment...the maintenance crews are a very important tool that I use to get the full picture.
I mostly ignore what upper management has to say because if they knew what they were doing there would be no need to try and fix the problem.
