Re: Your path
The right Q is 'how long did it take for you to go Captain?'
I want to die like my grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming in terror like his passengers...
Re: Your path
I am really curious as to why everyone is more worried about being a Capt at the airlines than actually getting there. It always goes form how is it?Pay? work? questions, To well if you go there it'll take forever to get left seat.
Personally I say who cares, your at the airlines with the same benefits as the guy beside you, flying the same aircraft. Sure he makes a bit more money, but man, enjoy the ride and don't worry about the upgrades so much.
Yes it will take 7 years to make Capt, It will take that long at Mainline, Westjet, Sky service, emirates, etc.
Oh sorry, It took me 6 years, I left flying for 1 of those years as well. So 5 years of flying.
I have no regrets with the direction I took either. I loved every minute of it.

Re: Your path
Took me 5 years from first job to getting hired at Jazz. And it wasn't all steady employment at one point I was unemployed for 8 months, good times

following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.

Emirates upgrade times (on average, unless direct entry captain, or Accelerated Command which is 18 months.)flyinhigh wrote:

-Boeing: 3 years
-Airbus: 4 years (may change to 3 when A380's start arriving later this year)
Just FYI.

Re: Your path
5 year upgrades at jazz??? dude I think you r reaching for the stars on that one. Try 7-8 years for a slot in yyz or yul....Out in yyc or yvr is close to 16 years.
Re: Your path
9 years from graduation but that includes many bankruptcy's and layoffs during the last downturn.

If the bids/awards continue as they have, it's possible that the early 2005 'newhires' (now 'senior' F/O's in some bases) will be able to hold YUL left seat on the Dash within the next 2 years. That would mean that 5 year upgrades are possible, if not likely. Currently, only about 30 numbers exist between the most junior captain, and the first of the '2005s'
I do agree that only YZ and UL are going to see new skippers in the next decade or two...
...And to answer SG12's original question, about 8 years and 3 employers before Jazz.
Re: Your path
Five years and a bit, 5 companies ( one I actually never flew for thank god) 2 bankruptcies. Only about 2 and a half months unemployed in the middle.
Re: Your path
Started flight training in Sept 95. Graduated in Mar 98. Got interviewed and sim for Jazz back in AUG 01. Sept 11th screwed everything up.
