Orientation at new Field while airborne

Post by wolf »

I was just wondering if any of you have any time proven techniques to orientate yourself to a new field(multiple runways) while airborne.....for example finding 06L as you approach so you can plan circuit entry, etc. I have used the DG in the past.....any thoughts.

Radio aids

I use the Radio aids, ILS for the runway I land, if it is center you will land in the right RWY.
If it has multiple runway, chances are they will have a tower

Take the CFS to a copy store.

Have them enlarge and photocopy the airport diagram onto a transparency.

Tape the transparency to your windscreen.

Fly around the airport til the runways on the ground line up with the ones taped to your window.

BINGO!

Have fun, and good luck.

Sakism - That is the best answer I have heard in a long long time. Just might work!!!

The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

It's good in theory, but most airports that are in the CFS haven't actually been updated in the CFS..

They forget to do that everytime they sell another copy(with new cover)

Always moving's advice is the most practical, another one is fessing up, If you are unfamilar with the area and you have the luxury of a controller let them know. Sure you sound like a wuss but better that then assuming you know where you are! You could save yourself from a major embarassment or worse
