Float plane training - when?

Post by pilotcdn »

For most of you that have taken your 50 hour course, what month have you taken it? Did any of you go the summer months? A lot of schools seem to be busy with tours then.

I did mine in the fall, in late October on the east coast. Where I did mine he doesn't generally offer the program through out the summer, just in the spring and fall. Like you said he is flying tours and sightseeing all summer, maybe the odd float rating but not a 50 hour course.

If you are looking for a course this spring, summer or fall in Southern Ontario, check out http://www.futureair.ca

Why take a 50 hr course? How about just rent a 172 and fly 50 hours to various picnic locations, and take your friend (for ballast ). Winnipeg Aviation used to rent out a 172, don't know if they still do. And what about Air Hart in Kelowna? The insurance companies care about how many hours on floats you have, that's it. If you and the renter are confident in your abilities, and the weather is good, go have some fun!
