Training

Post by Kaptin Kool-aid »

I've been hired by WestJet!!! I am diving right into the WJ culture and I'm going to drink it all up... GIDDY-UP. Anyways... Has there been anyone who didn't make it through the training? I have been successful thus far with "most" of my training, but I have a little anxiety with this up-coming course. Thoughts? Insight?

...Oh and NO i didn't come from Jazz. There is hope for those non-Jazzers out there.

Have there been guys who have washed out? Yes. How many? Not sure. A guy from my course washed out and that was in August 2003. I know a guy washed out last Fall. Just one small bit of advice. When the technical part of the course is complete, leave it behind you!! No matter how little you feel you know about the aircraft, it will pay to concentrate on the SOP's!! You will have to know both the Captain's and the F/O's rolls, flows and briefings. You will need to know the calls and the procedures. I have seen before where a guy is stuck in trying to "know" the airplane when he should be getting ready for sim. As well, have a beer or two while you are here on course. It pays to relax a little bit too. Congrats and welcome to Team Teal!!

CCR's advice is good.

Just to add to it, the FOM is basically your bible once you get to sim. Use the outline for each sim session, and know what is on it for each day, and you'll be in good shape. For example, don't focus on V1 cuts before FBS (fixed base sim) #1, it will be a waste of mental energy at that point. Know flows, basic calls, basic profiles, etc--as I said, whatever is on the outline for that session.

If you keep up with the progression, it isn't bad--still busy, but a good continuous pace. But if you get behind, it is difficult to catch up, as it is a full program.

Basically, show up on time, work hard (don't overstudy though), and have fun, and you will likely be fine.

Good luck, and welcome to the team!

I agree. Know cold the T/O brief, Std calls, and know what they tell you to study for the next session.

Have a blast... see you at the profit sharing party 8)
