Short runways

This is my favorite forum on Avcanada. I should have pursued float flying instead of desk flying.

Anyhow, today, I saw this article on the World's Scariest Runways and it just made me laugh. No Grise Fjord. No Ungava bay strips, roads, etc that Canadian pilots use on a regular basis.

I just had to share it with you.

I think stl has everyone beat for small/short runways

I have a couple pics hiding somewhere.. but I'm tired and the connection here is slow.

Hey now, I used to fly FW quite a bit, even up around your neck of the woods JC..... Some of the best were the '"non-strips" I used to go to in a Cub for this old guy in Dawson.... Makes me shake my head thinking back on it, but it's hard to hurt yourself when you can land at 30kts....

FYI Rowdy, did a "touch and go" on a 10ft cedar stump yesterday..... No camera, but I'll try to get a pic of the spot one of these days.

Never flew the beaver on wheels scuddy.. you know that! I'm talkin lakes/rivers!!

With the cub they mighta been narrow.. but roads are always nice and long! haha

have to land after the 45 bend.. and before the 90 at the end.. Almost always a crosswind in that shithole. Mr. North can attest to the fun at Cowboy hill! or the Hydro dock.

Cant land to the right.. too many rocks! Makes for an interesting departure too..

We all get to have our fun ..! Just pokin fun at ya buddy! I can only imagine how nuts some of the spots you went into were! With a BN2 no less

I'm looking for some places to make this kind of airstrips in Canada, could someone give me some adresses / information of where i could perform such trainings, if possible close to Newfoundland but anywhere in Canada is okay.

Its a real airstrip all right. I think I even have a copy of the approach plate (instructions)

Here's the notes:
Cordinites S 03 37.40 E 136 35.79
Length 457m width 30m
Average Elevation 5700' TDZ 200' lower than parking area which is the other end of the runway
Touch down zone 14% grade mid field 8% the far end 24%

Surface: Hard and smooth gravel. Moderate crown. Very steep with large but gradual slope changes.

Weather pattern: Winds can be strong, gusty and turbulant due to rugged terrain. Fog seldom a problem.

Aborts: Landings: Left turn out at 5800' 300m from touchdown. If unable to stop swerve into ditch/bank. Do not go off upper end.
Aborts: Takeoff: Committed at crest of hill upon brake release. If unable to stop, groundloop into left bank.

hazards/Remarks: Wind curfew 9:30. Unussually steep slope. Optical illuion could put you low and slow on approach. Keep power and taxi speed up until reaching parking area, but stop quickly at the top since parking area drops off abruptly. Headwinds on approach could indicate dangerous downdraft on short final. Do not land if wind appears strong gusty or turbulent.
