Bush Flying Video

Post by TR »

I am trying to track down a video that I watched in the mid nineties. It was about bush flying out of Yellowknife. It had a short section on Martin Hartwell, a older guy flying a twin otter onto a northern island picking up whale bones, and couple of young guys flying a twin otter talking about the freedom of bush flying, and how they tried the white shirt flying and didn't like it because you couldn't be yourself. I beleive it also had a short section on a young lady flying the skyvan.

Does anyone remember this video? I think it was probably a NOVA or Flight Path vid, but I can't find it anywhere.

That was the Flightpath video, with Mike from Tindi, and Vicki Veldshoen.

NOVA originated on the Public Broadcasting Service in the US. Here's their Boston site.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/ The home site is on there somewhere. I've ordered past NOVA presentations from them - The CASA 123 crash video - so what you're looking for is probably available from their archives.

Watching a movie about bush flying doesn't make you a bush pilot :prayer:

If it worked that way, then I would be a porn star

I was just watching a tape of the video your asking about the credits at the end say its a Canamedia Production produced in association with channel 4 TV, TV Ontario, Ontario Film Development, and Rogers Communications INC. It was done in 1989. A phone number at the end of the credits was 1 800 663 1620. Hope this helps you get a copy, I flew with a lot of these guys in the 70's up there.

That's another video altogether but looks pretty good! Here's a link to the Flightpath video spoken of earlier, on the History Channel. Still looking where to purchase this video.

The trailer wasn't the flightpath one I was thinking about.

The song was from one of these three I think:

G'day Chaps

The program was 'By The Seat of Their Pants". It covered a number of colourful characters including Willie Laserich who landed a Twotter on a small beach to pick up a kill by some Inuit that was too big to carry back. When he got there, most of it had been eaten by some animals. He did a neat short field takeoff in 100 and some odd feet.

This gem was produced in 1988 by ex-pat Brit Les Harris and Britain's Channel Four along with TVOntario. Incidently, it won the People's Choice Award at the Red Deer International Festival plus a Gemini.

Cheers...Chris
