Aviation Frequency Scanner
Hey,
Does anyone know where i can find a cheap aviation scanner so I can pick up ATC when i go to the airport?
This one guy had a radio from the 70's and it worked perfectly.(so age doesnt matter to me)
Maybe someone would also have suggestions of how I could build one?
Thanks,

Do some googling about airband scanners or aviation scanners. There's tons out there, and probably a decent buyers guide. I'd also recommend checking craigslist and ebay for used, cheaper ones. In general I'd stick with the major name brands like Icom and Yaesu.
If you're a pilot, strongly consider spending some extra dough for a transceiver that you can carry with you in the plane. It might bail you out of a tight spot one day when your radio dies (for example, the recent thread in the Flight Training Forum about a night flight radio failure that left them unable to trigger the ARCAL runway lights needed to land).

Great idea,
It could definately bail you out.
What words would I search for?
Craigslist doesnt come up with aviation scanner.
I tried aviation scanner and found a few on ebay but they were about $100+

Er, what did you expect to pay? Five bucks? Almost all scanners cover the aviation band, all you have to do is some research. Google is your friend.pit7777 wrote:found a few on ebay but they were about $100+

I have this http://www.amazon.com/Uniden-Bearcat-BC ... 79&sr=8-10
it works great, cheap and easy. goes through AA batteries pretty quickly but you can get adapters. you can store banks of frequencies and then only scan particualr banks. so for example i have all the CYYC freq in one bank, police freq in another, etc.

1000 bucks for a handheld isn't that bad
luckily I work at an Icom dealership, so I'll never have to pay that whack price

Re: Aviation Frequency Scanner
I had a PRO 89 from radio shack for years, then I bought my first car, weeks later someone broke into my car stole my scanner and my camera tripod...... however they found my lost mp3 player and left that behind.
