Re: Sunwing Vacations
I was told around 65K to start as an FO which sounds okay in Canada, but you spend 6 months in the UK. That would be brutal money in London. Not even sure if you could eat every day on that. Maybe they pay in pounds while ooverseas?
Re: Sunwing Vacations
FYI
You are given an allowance while on deployed ops, paid in local currency (Pounds/Euros; dependent on base). This covers food, housing, transport,etc.. You will not be out of pocket while deployed, unless living larger than life.
Before you ask bases this summer; Glasgow, Newcastle, Dublin, Heraklion.

Re: Sunwing Vacations
So for clarification --- Does this mean all expenses are covered and one can still pay for their mortgage and family expenses at home? i.e. cost of living while abroad is covered by the company?
Also do you have a choice as to base? Are you committed to the one base once assigned?

Bases are allocated via bid, and appears to go reasonably senior. The allowance is a fixed amount, and it does reasonably cover all expenses. Just as a note it is not as generous as the skyservice deal, but you will be comfortable in Europe. Unless you're a big spender, you're salary can stay home with your mortgage, etc.
Cheers

Thanks for the quick reply. Another question -
Are you responsible for finding accommodation or does the company take care of that for you?

Re: Sunwing Vacations
Seems they are doing a big hiring spree at the moment? The job sounds like alot of fun. UKbound, do you know what kind of hours they are flying?
Re: Sunwing Vacations
Also what are the destinations in Europe? The web site dosn't list any.

Re: Sunwing Vacations
Sunwing doesn't fly from Canada to Europe. They have aircraft based in Europe on wetlease, and fly on behalf of other airlines there. Typically these would be destinations in the Spanish or Greek islands, and other sun destinations for British tourists.
Paddy, you take care of your own accommodation if you are a deployed pilot.

Re: Sunwing Vacations
Good answers. Thanks eh.
Isn't 6 month housing hard to find. I mean in Calgary no one will rent to you without a 1 year lease and it then will it costs way more.
I really have no idea it just seems like the UK portion of the year would be pretty tough to make ends meet, especially like one poster said if you have a mortgage here while you are gone.
thanks for the input.

Does anyone know where interviews are held for Sunwing? YYZ? or do they interview in other cities?
What kind of time and experience do recent hires have?
Thanks

You should read the responses carefully. You are are paid expenses while deployed. In other words if you can afford your mortgage at home, you will still be able to afford it while away. Your salary is unchanged, and the expenses are more than adequate, for a comfortable stay in Europe.
As for 6 month leases on flats etc, this is the norm in the UK, so not unusual at all. It's more a matter of the credit checks and deposits required. So a little hair pulling at the beginning, but otherwise no big deal.
As for flying hours, I believe the crews in Europe are restricted to 900 hours on a rolling 12 month basis while deployed. Otherwise expect to fly lots, ie close to legal maximum. You will make lots in overtime payments.
Adios

Parallel60:
I just did an interview and it was held in Toronto at their head office on Fasken Drive. To the best of my knowledge that is the only place they hold them.
I would also like to add that I was impressed with the whole screening process. Professional and fast. Everyone was corteous and informative. Lots of heads up for the interview (almost 3 weeks for me). For those who don't know, it is a technical exam followed by an interview. If successfull in the interview and exam, you progress to the sim eval which is completed within a day or two after the interview. They called me later in the day after the sim eval and let me know the end result. No sitting by the phone for weeks on pins and needles waiting for it to ring.
Edited for added content.

Re: Sunwing Vacations
I thought start FO pay was like $35,000 base plus $3000/mo extra for every month deployed
Re: Sunwing Vacations
how about benefits, pension, passes, etc?
What is the schedule like? Decent layovers?
Enquiring minds want to know.
