Swanberg Pay!

Post by Quag_mire »

Just wondering what the pay is for captains and fo's. I assume it is low since they need to advertise for pilots.

thanks

They are currently shut down as the have no crews Chief or AOC. Does not look promising. Gamble to go.

This might be a good lesson to others operators about Supply and Demand.

All operators should be upping pay scales and benefits. Offering living allowance or rotations. It is the only way right now.

One of their recent job ads said $58 000 a year for captains, $2 000 a year more in Grande Prairie. Don't know what f/os get. Doesn't sound like money was the issue for the exodus.

Swanberg Air pays captains $58,000 and provide an additional $2000 living allowance if you live in Grande Prairie. FO's get just over $36,000 with $500 for GP. The pay scale also allows for regular retention increases, experience and additional responsibility pay plus a benefits package that is about as good as you can get. There is even a well funded pension matching program.
If you check around, you will find that Swanberg Air has always paid at or better than market for its crews. That is true today.
We don't apologize for having high standards or expecting our team to go that extra bit for our customers. It might look like a gamble to go to Swanberg Air but for the right people, the potential, challenge, rewards and satisfaction are there for the taking.
This company truly appreciates good aviators and good people.

Does Swanberg Air encourage female pilots to apply?

Swanberg Air encourages anyone to apply..the desire is to hire based on a positive attitude, good work ethic and teamwork, not gender.

Above average? Compared to whom?

I was offered this in YYC on a +12,500, 704, aircraft that I am not typed on.

-$58,000 a year increasing by $2000 a year (forever)

-$3.00 a duty hour meal perdium (tax free)

-I get my own hotel room if I sit for more than 5 hours

-No aircraft grooming or washing (ever)

-I work 10 and 4 or a Monday to Friday Shift (And usually only fly 3-4 days a week)

-If I work a day off I get $335.00

-$50.00 a month cell phone allowance

What do you offer Swanberg? Good luck finding qualified people...

The fresh prince is right, that would make Swanberg the lowest paying operator in Calgary (except for CMA who is the lowest paying in Canada). Pilots are motivated by 3 main things:

1. Pay
2. Schedule
3. Metal

You have to offer one of the 3 that your competitors don't or you won't find captains right now. Even SW with their shiny jets, and new pay scale is having trouble attracting people. 58K for a 704 captain is low, 60 for YQU is insulting, you'd have to pay me 75+ to move there to fly a Jetstream and even at that I'd have to rent....

Yes I agree with the last two posts. Just because the company may think that they are being generous ,they have to take into account at their own peril, what other options are available to qualified crew.
One company in Edmonton is offering $85 K to fly a TBM .
The cost of living in YYC makes 58K chump change especially when jobs in Ft.Mac pay $100 K
to drivers of ground equipment.
Supply and Demand at work.

What are some of the well paying companies in Calgary? I know Edmonton does not have that many jobs.

According to my sources, Sunwest pays the highest for king airs after about year 5 of a 7 year pay scale, however for the short term, Borek and Bar X pay a bit better depending on where you're based, how much experience you have etc, after that comes NCA unless you meet Shell requirements in which case you are in line with BX, KB, and SW.

Then way way way sown at the bottom is CMA.

Has BarXH raised their pay scale? I was quoted 42, 000 for BE20 capt last July, and that was coming with time and PPC on type.

A recent job add I saw for Cariboo said 52,000 for King Air Captain.

I can't seem to find out what sunwest pays. I think 60 to 70 for a cap in yyc would be alright.

Bar x raised their pay on Jan 1, Sunwest followed suit very shortly after. I think that number for NCA is correct but if you want to compare Jetstreams to King Airs you have to look at the 1900 pay to be on par by size or number of seats and I have no idea what Cariboo pays for that.

As for SW's new numbers they won't let anyone print them out but I understand the new scale starts around 60 and goes up for 7 years.

Great post.

58K in YQU is asking for people to move on no matter how good the company is to work for.

Would you pay 100K for someone who'd commit for 10 years? Some of your truck drivers are making that much.

Swanberg has no management and doesn't seem to want any either.
