headsets
I am going to be buying a headset very shortly and was wondering if anybody had some feed back about the different brands, is bose really the best? are dc's over rated? any under rated or good makes that are unheard of?
anything and everything is appreciated.

Re: headsets
Do a search, because this topic has been talked about in the past. Generally, are you looking for an intro level headset or something with ANR? How much are you willing to spend? If you have the cash, get the Telex 50D, probably the best headset out there.
Timing is everything.

Re: headsets
I'd been using my DC 13.4's for about 4 years when I bought the Bose ANR and loved them. The only problem was that the wire kept pulling itself out with little force and became a pain in the arse to fix... I'm now back to using my old DC headset, and don't think I'll look back for awhile....

Re: headsets
Don't forget to check out the Lightspeed Zulu. Lots of features not found on similar priced headsets, sounds awesome on tx and rx, newer and better looking design than the 50D (the other choice I was looking at). Works awesome!
Cheers!

Re: headsets
There is a lot of information on headsets if you use the search function.
That being said I used my DC 13.4 for 5 years and never had an issue. They're still perfect and work great. I now have a set of bose X, super great, the anr is unreal. When I first started using them I thought something was wrong with the plane because it was so quiet. The only thing I don't like about them is that they were $1100 and so I have to take care of them. With my DC's I could just toss them in my flight bag, leave them in my car in the middle of the winter and never worry about them.

Re: headsets
i have a zulu. actually, i have had 2 zulus, but the first one had some problems, so i swapped it for another, which has been great - very clear, and the ANR works very well. it's packed with 'extra' features that i can't ever see myself using (like bluetooth) but i've been impressed so far...
Re: headsets
david clark X11's !!! alot of $$$ but in my opinion, well worth the purchase.
ANR makes a huge difference... once you start doing 3.0 hrs+ you'll really appreciate the missing "hum" of your little piston...

Re: headsets
DC makes hands down the most rugged reliable product out there. Granted, maybe not the most comfortable, but I've been using them for years, and even after 8 plus hours at the controls of a particularly noisy machine, I'm easily as sane as when I started the day.

Re: headsets
I am personally going a different direction and trying an in-ear headset. From some of the reading I've been doing, ANR may not be as beneficial as really good PNR. That combined with my glasses makes traditional headsets less than great performers for me.
That said if I end-up flying more than I have been I will most likely have a back-up, and it will be a metal DC.
Cheers,
Grant

Re: headsets
Zulu all the way, I can talk on my cell phone through the headset using the bluetooth technology and when I hang up the music on my cell phones card starts to play but when a com call comes on the music drops to 30% vol, extreamly comfortable very quiet even in the beaver, if you wear ball caps as I do the button on the hat fits between the gel pads, theater sound, folds flat, comes in a awsome hard case, I you buy it out of Calgary you save 1 tax and they ship for free.
