Why do Americans pronounce it Eye-raq?

Post by bmc »

The "i" is pronounced like the work "it". Why have Americans changed it to Eye Raq and Eye Ran?

Drives me nuts.

Rant over.

Have a nice day.

I hate it when people tell me they're going to "the" Barbados! There is only ONE!

But then, the Americans don't have butter tarts! Can you imagine not having butter tarts? Poor things!

Mmmmm...butter tarts. With pecans.

I was at a world curling championship one year and some old guy sitting next to me said there was a team from Sussy there. I couldn't figure out where Sussy was until the old guy pointed out the team with Suisse on their jerseys. :D

You're talking about the same folks who pronounce "oh" as "ah"

Ask an American, especially one from Michigan to say

Oxygen
Pop
Dollar

You'll scratch your head a few times

Plus they think when we say "about" that it sounds like "a boot"

But hey, the Brits call a dress a frock. Never figured that one out either.

In Europe I ran into some people from Ohio. When they asked me where I was from and I said Vancouver, Canada he says to me "OH GEEZE I KNEW IT! I HEARD THE ACCENT!"

Ill say it again they were from Ohio...
