base trade

Post by augustus777 »

Ok, I have a question.
Is it possible to do a temporary base trade?
For example, 2 pilots “unofficially” switch bases for
the summer. Or is this far to complex for jazz to handle.
thks

Actually, now that you've brought that up Augustus777, I'm interested in finding out if anyone would be interested in a base change as well. But this would be a permanent one. Do you know how we go about it? I'm based in YUL and looking to go to YYZ.

Cheers

Equipment bid should be out the middle of next month. Get you standing bid in now, having one always there will increase your chance of getting moved outside of the bid to fill a vacancy as needed.

Cool. Thanks buddy. Well, my current standing bid already reflects the fact that I want at YYZ base (preferably on the CRJ if I can get it). YYZ has the greatest variety in their flying, compared to all the other bases. Thats what I'm looking for, more variety. The flying out of YUL is quite boring to tell you the truth. The only reason I had bid it, was to not have to commute. But the commuting between YUL and YVR was actually pretty good.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure 'temporary' base trades aren't permitted. You could get a quick and correct answer on the ALPA web board.

I also wouldn't count on a July equipment either. Likely not until January.

This system overall has some holes in it. One of us can have a standing bid in for another base for up to 6 months while the company continually creates and fills positions through groundschools (on average 2 a month). I've bid another base for two and a half months only to find out just a few weeks earlier there were loads of spots given to new hires in the base and a/c being requested.

Furthermore, when the new bid does come out.. you can alomost expect to wait another few months for your actual date of start at your new base.

Yeah, you're right about that Brize. It wasn't that long for me though. I was based in YVR when I first started on the line in mid January. When the bids came out, it showed me going to YUL as of May 1st. That was actually pretty quick. But had I know that the YUL flying would be so boring, I would have bid YYZ from the beginning.

We live and we learn.

Who cares about the flying. It's all the same in the end. A hotel is a hotel. A leg is a leg. An airport is an airport.

The only thing different about YYZ is you sit on your ass for longer periods of time in a row. You'll work the same amount of days and if you're on reserve, you'll max out.

Enjoy the time off and f-ck the rest. It's only a job.

PS cummuting sucks, if you want to fly from YYZ, you should get a place there. It's expensive to commute and the prices are going to go up too.
