Simply Put, Tazzers are not safe.

They temporarily inhibit normal body function and recent studies have found repeated use to have lasting damage in Pigs with exposures lasting longer than 4 seconds, Leaving some doctors to draw the conclusion that damage is occuring with any application, but not meeting the detection threshold. Tazzers are especially dangerous on people in a hypertensive state for several reasons, however FDA approval does not require testing on person under the influence of narcodics, which many victims are. The research is there, and building as well. I don't think we know the full extent of damage they can really do.

I think they can be used as a very valuable tool in law enforcment, My fear however is that they are being used without proper knowledge of the harm they do, To avoid contact or use of restraint from officers (part of they job unfortunately) and used by people who do not necessarily posses the physical stature to be a police officer. That being said I am sure they are safer than a 9mm, but i don't think a 9mm would be the alternative in most of the cases of tazzer use.

Lets gather more information on these wepons, and encourage police to do things the old fashoned way. I feel bad for the officers in the line of fire, but it is part of their job. They are there to protect the public, not place them in unnecessary danger, and unfortunately this is a compromise to their safety, But thats they way it has always been. It's a downside to a good job.
