AC laying off 180...
Sounds like the same old AC to me. 180 jobs being axed in maintenance in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Montreal.

NO surprise there. The ywg and yul mx bases were political bases in the first place. As as private company now, all political bets are off.
Those layoffs are just a signal that AC is (hopefully) no longer going to act as an employment agency for Ottawa, being forced to shore up crappy economies places that make no sense from an operational point of view just because the government can't do the job of making those places attractive to non-government interfered with businesses.
The yvr mx base has been overstaffed since the takeover, but the Liberals have put pressure on AC not to "restructure" the wet coast because they get few enough votes out there already and the 30000 ex-cdn +spinnoff company employees might hate them more than they already do.
It's shitty for those who got laid-off, but it'll be better for the company in the long term, which will be better for pilots.
Just ask WJ why they don't have major mx bases in St Johns or Yellowknife. Mind you, if they keep growing, Martin and co. will surely start looking at them like they've looked at all the other airlines: as political tool to do their jobs for them, no matter the cost.
