KARMA???
The average pilot, despite the somewhat swaggering exterior, is very much capable of such feelings as love, affection, intimacy and caring.
These feelings just don't involve anyone else.

Today in Ottawa its gonna do it again, so explanations please!

I've heard that some airshow performers will still go ahead even if the show is called because of the weather.
Re: Airshows and crap weather!
Hey CID, I didn't know you were an airshow pilot! What types
do you have on your ICAS card? Is there going to be an airshow
in Winnipeg this summer? Are you flying in it?

Re: Airshows and crap weather!
I'm not sure what all of that has to do with the topic Hedley. We're discussing weather interuptions at air shows. I don't really follow the air show schedules in Canada or anywhere else for that matter so I did a quick internet search for you.
It looks like Winnipeg doesn't host an airshow anymore. It looks like the venue has changed to a city west of Winnipeg and it's been held there the last few years. Unfortunately anyone that wished to attend this year is too late.

But don't worry. I'm sure that if you do a few internet searches yourself you'll be able to find some other shows in Canada to attend. It appears that you know a great deal about the business. Will you be flying in any airshows in Canada this year? Let me know and I'll make a point of trying to attend.
Cheers

Update:
My mistake. The Manitoba airshow was cancelled for 2008.

I guess nobody missed it. The weather was probably crappy anyway!

Re: Airshows and crap weather!
That's odd, CID, usually you're quite insightful.I'm not sure what all of that has to do with the topic
I thought your original remark was a rather obvious hint that you
were an airshow pilot that would fly after a airshow was cancelled,
which is a bit odd.
Too bad the airshow in the 'peg was cancelled.
P.S. I see that an outfit in Steinbach, MB needs a jump pilot
ASAP! Maybe you could help them out until they can find a
full-time guy? Given all of what you say here, you must be
quick a hot stick, and I'm sure you could easily dump jumpers
and help those guys out.
Re: Airshows and crap weather!
Really? So if I wrote "I heard some people perform air swings" that would be an "obvious hint" that I was an AME that would probably do such an idiotic thing? At the risk of being called a "pervert", I have to say that's a rather perverse interpretation of my statement.I thought your original remark was a rather obvious hint that you

But of course, you are entitled to your opinon and have every right to state it here.
OK. Now that I understand how you interpret this sort of statement, let me give it a try using your "obvious hint" method. You're a "hot stick" who has a desire to jump out of perfectly good airplanes part time. And/or you long to live in a dry "Russian Mennonite" community in the middle the Canadian Prairies. Is that close?P.S. I see that an outfit in Steinbach, MB needs a jump pilot

Kind of an odd desire seeing how Steinbach (according to wikipedia) is known as the "Automobile City". Thinking of hanging up the wings?
Tragic. I'm sure there are plenty of examples of that sort of behaviour and hopefully some of the youngsters reading this thread will learn from this discussion.CID, the guy who took over after I left the "mob", did just that, as a result spread himself over a few acres of grass, Its my take that this is just what some of the ice cream lickers go to see,I managed to disapoint them, but only just!In those days there were almost no restriction re crowd lines and all that stuff, most of us on squadron looked upon airshows a a bit of a "Joe Job",and tried to avoid being involved, looks like the weather gods may let up a bit today.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Re: Airshows and crap weather!
Looks like the weather held off enough to get the complete show in today at the Ottawa Airshow.. I departed CYRP around 1500h local and landed back at CYOW just as the Snowbirds were taxiing out... they should have had enough time to do their display before the black clouds hit CYRP. What a mud pit from yesterday's downpour though.

Re: Airshows and crap weather!
How was the organization on the ground at Carp? Did the new parking and shuttle scheme work?
The morning guy on BOB FM attended the show and he said on the radio this morning that the Sunday air displays were awesome but he "had absolutely nothing good to say about the show arrangements on the ground".

I always learned it was 'April showers bring May flowers' and not 'May flowers bring June showers'
Re: Airshows and crap weather!
The ground at Carp was a literal mess, though one has to blame mother nature for most of it; it rained pretty much all day Saturday and the grounds turned into a big mud pit. This has happened in the past and I'm surprised there wasn't more of an effort to get some plywood or something on the ground in the worst places. Most of the volunteers were wearing rubber boots, as it was virtually impossible to get from the East side of the field where the static displays were to show center. I made the trek there and back once, passing by a poor kid selling snow cones or something in the midst of a mess of mud and water. The air displays were good, but you could tell that some people were a bit uncomfortable standing at the fence on their tiptoes trying to avoid getting their shoes soaked.tonyhunt wrote:How was the organization on the ground at Carp? I flew in to be part of the static display so I didn't experience the parking/shuttle system.
Re: Airshows and crap weather!
p.s. for those of you keeping tabs, the Skyhawks jumped out of a N-registered Casa 212 again. The Buffalo was on site at YRP but the word going around was that it had a cracked windshield (due to the mud, I avoided making the trek out there to get the story for myself) so if that's the case I doubt we'll see the DH5 on Canada Day either.

Didja see a big green Stearman, parked next to a grey Harvard?

Thx ...

I flew the PT-22 Ryan into CYND for Mike's last open

Chipmunks on the ramp in front of the hangar.
Yes, but I'm a bit confused ... isn't there a ChipmunkDid you see the yellow Chipmunk?
