When is this industry going to pick up??
You always hear there is going to be a huge hiring frenzy every spring, just wondering when it will finally come. BS

You won't get hired just listening to rumors...put down that BS flag and at least pick up a phone and call a company or two. If you're feeling up to and you are not that busy, take a drive to meet companies.Hoe Driver wrote:You always hear there is going to be a huge hiring frenzy every spring, just wondering when it will finally come. But if you're already driving "Navajo's" I think you're at the stage where Chief Pilots are fighting over you. Wow! Thats amazing! Maybe you should write a book on all your adventures.
PS: The question was kinda fair...the BS flag ticked me off in a large way. In case you were wondering.
The dog is correct. It aint all "BS". Skyward is looking. Calm Air has had people leave for WJ. There's a new op in YXL looking for a CP...ya gotta know he'll be looking at "HOE" driver resumes...if not now...real soon. It's happening dude. Just dont trip over your lower lip!
Just saw on another forum, some WestJet pilot claimed that they will hire about 150 pilots this year and another 150 pilots in 2005.......and with Jetsgo hiring probably 100? pilots for their F100's and Canjet expanding soon too, these 3 company's are driving the current hiring trend......and it will open things up at the lower ranks.....typical "trickle down" effect......
Things are starting to move especially if you have some time under your belt, but its also sad that you need "connections" to even get an interview with the airlines these days

Dunno, still looking at the situation as an Air Canada controled market ... until they get their act together, get their a/c sorted, not to mention all the poor drivers they laid off etc ... the rest of the market will start to actualy see some dramatic improvement. Even with Canada $30 000, WJ, etc hiring, until AC gets "re-structured" or goes, I think we'll have a whole lot more of these talks over the next little while. Don't get me wrong, I'm staying optimistic, but only to an extent. It's going to take time to sort out. I hope we all manage to laugh about it all over a few drinks in years to come. My $0.02 though ... Cheers
I think some of the movement up top is having an effect on smaller ops. It seems there are lots of jobs out there if you have over 1000 hours. I've had 5 calls in the last 1 1/2 months, i only sent out about 30 resumes.
Its all for float flying jobs, but some people ive talked to also say there are jobs out there in the light twin market as well....if you got some multi experience. Maybe the work isent coming out of the woodwork, but it is trickling in faster than in the last few years.

The company I work for has lost three pilots recently to other jobs. So far we've hired two lower time guys for Hoe positions, and will probally hire one or two more. So there is definately movement out there.
Good, maby someday someone will want to pay me a rediculous amount of money to fly there little airplane around.

more of the same...we lost 6 or 7 guys in the last few months to WJ and (LMAO) Canada $30,000 (love that). Lots of new faces - and yes some low timers.
Things look like there going to keep moving for the unforseen future. Things at AC and JAZZ are moving along. Overall, a nice start to a recovery.
The feet you step on today might be attached to the ass you're kissing tomorrow.

But real glad to here some good news. When you have about 3 or 4 people ahead of you in seniority and they have around, oh I dunno, maybe 4 times the Time etc, and not move on ... it's sometimes hard to see anything save the listing for "Truck Master" in the yellow pages
Looks like it may be time to grease the ol' email machine ...
Cheers!!

Well Corn Shoot, I'll take your word for it, I don't particularily agree, but if you say I / we are lazy I guess we are. I'm not going to start re-hashing old posts here ... but apparently we are obviously all considered qualified and insurable for anything we put our minds towards. I think therefore I am ... or in the words of Monty Python: I drink therefore I am ... I must be lazy
But a bit more of an explanation to your post would be appreciated ... How are we lazy? Help us "procrastinators" move towards a better future!!
But speaking for myself, I've been sending out the resumes / faxes / emails / etc and outside from a few PFOs or "you do realize you don't meet our time requirement" conversations, I accept the fact that with a low TT and little multi PIC, I'm not qualified for a lot of jobs, regardless of effort or lazyness or how much of a "good guy" employers say I am ... Still trying though ... my $0.02

I hate it when people say they cant find a job "well I called around" Well good for you get off your ass get in your car and drive till you get on you can see on here that there all kinds of jobs I was told that once you hear a rumour you should act on it becaus if you wate it will be gone.

I can tell you that there are many more opertunitys out there today than there were a year ago. Sending a resume by mail, fax, or email don't mean very much. They end up in a pile with every other. Show your face, branch out to new communitys and every company that you go visit, you must, I repeat you must buy pilots a case of beer, and not a little case, two-four or nothing.

The company I work for has a hard time getting enough AME's, and they are treated fairly well here, so I think there is quite a shortage, IMHO.
I must admit I have noticed lots of positions available if you have some time on something. i bet it is still pretty tough (although far from impossible) to get an entry level job. You low timers just have to get in your car and drive to Fort whatever and be persistent and confident.

Industry pick up - hah! We are in the middle of what the stock traders call the "dead cat bounce." AS fuel prices rise while we negotiate the peak of oil production (forecasts already of $1.00/litre + by summer) then ticket prices rise, people stop flying, and the dead cat hits the floor again, this time to stay. Enjoy the ride.
Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

The gravytrain has left the station for good, like NS said, with ever rising fuel prices, insurance, threats of terrorism, unstable currency markets, I don't hold out much hope for a sustained and complete recovery (ala pre-9/11), we may be in a bubble regarding hiring because of the expansion of WestJet, Jetsgo, Canjet etc.....but with the failure of AC still possible, and all those problems I mentioned above, if you got a job, hang onto it, as the grass may not be greener on the other side come fall time......
