Re: C206
Oh, Oh, That's what I want. Flew one on wheels last summer and really enjoyed it. Older model that was light, wing-x & vg's. Hauled a real good load, easy to fly, lots of room, relatively fast... all the good stuff. Sorry, I can't tell you anything about them on floats but from what I have heard are so-so at sea level or there abouts. But if you are like me and need amphibs to operate, I don't think you would ever willingly go back without a lot of kickin & screamin... The 206 float guys will have to fill in the rest. Where and what are you doing with it? Family, work, loads??

Re: C206

This was the C206 I flew last summer. On wheels though. If you are going to carry any loads make sure it is the U model not the P. and make sure to check out the amphib history very closely. I don't think they are known for major headaches like my 50 yr. old ones, but I'd still check them out. Nothing worse than having the performance of amphibs and running them like straight floats. Hey, buy it now and come hang around for the summer. We would sure put it to work. Think of all the float time you would have at the end of the summer. Good luck.

IMHO a 206 is great on wheels but makes a poor float plane, especially on amphibs. I think a 185 is a better choice.

Re: C206
Jamezy, for whatever it is worth I flew a TU206 on Whipline Amphibious floats for a heli logging company for two years on the west coast of Vancouver Island and I loved it.
Like any aircraft you must operate it within its designed limits to get best use out of it.
For a private owner it is a great airplane as long as you don't try and over load it. Compared to a 180 /185 it is far more comfortable and just feels better to fly.
Then again that is only my personal thoughts on the C206 on Amphibs based on just under seven hundred hours of flying one.
I am sure there will be some here who will disagree with my opinion on this airplane but hey this is the internet...it is also possible some of the opinions being expressed are coming from pilots who have very little exposure to the 206 on Amphibs so consider that.

Re: C206
Well i do not want to burst your bubble but anything floats is expensive (a/c, insurance, etc). I am not trying to deter you by any means but unless one day your father was shooting at some food and up from the ground came a bubbling crude a 206 will be out of reach for a first plane by 16!
I would recommend maybe getting a few like minded buddies and go splitzies on a 172 on floats or something else.
But please dont let me deter you, I never thought I could get my plane but things worked out, dont let anyone tell you you cant do it, but maybe make your goals a little more reasonable so you dont dissapoint yourself.
Good luck!

Thanks Niss but now all the things ive heard aboout the 206 i think i would go with something a little more reasonable like a 185.

Giving that kind of advice is doing a disfavor to those who may not know much about flying...especially flying on floats.get a champ on floats... good experience and you really don't have to think when your flying it
Suppose someone actually thinks that kind of comment is genuine good advice?

Kinda think '76 is jerkin our chain. Oh well been had... likely won't be the last time.
Re: C206
Ronner, with that kind of attitude, I seriously doubt you could afford a paddle, let alone a boat. Even if the kid is dreaming, it's a good place to start. A Piper Cub on floats can be had for under $75,000. If the kid is already taking lessons at 13, he/she is likely supported by parents who want to see their child do well. As long as my son or daughter were working, doing well in school, focused on a flying career, I would have no problem exploring ownership of a plane as opposed to a car.Ronner wrote:unless your folks are rich your not gonna own a 185 anphib when your 16 let alone afford to operate it or maintain it
good troll though, im gonna go back and paddle my boat up the dumb dumb river
And if it's only a troll, at least it gets others thinking about plane ownership. Not a bad thing for aviation.
Are we there yet?

Re: C206
Hey, a C206 Amphib is a tall dream but actual aircraft ownership can be had for less than your first new pick up truck (not a 206 though). And right now is a good time to be looking with a fall to winter purchase. At 13 even a C150, you'd be the coolest kid on the block plus be putting in some fairly reasonable costing hours toward your PPL / CPL. At 13 with a summer job cutting grass you could almost make the monthly payments. A T-Craft on floats can be had for under 20K. and is great hand / foot training. So, hope you work through your dream. But the offer is still there, buy the amphib 206 and head north with me. We'll get you some hours. As for 185's, they are selling at 2003-04 / 180 prices and 206's for 185 prices. So for us here in Canada with the US / CDN. being pretty much at par, there are a lot of options. Wish I was buying right now. Have fun.
Re: C206
Ah but where can you find finance these days? I've talked to a fair few companies and they have not be interested in the low-cost end of aircraft finance. Most require a minimum of $30K and that with a short repayment schedual.sheephunter wrote:Hey, a C206 Amphib is a tall dream but actual aircraft ownership can be had for less than your first new pick up truck (not a 206 though). I am currently somewhat looking for an aircraft, although I want something on wheels. I'd also like to do it with 2 or 3 partners, but it seems finding them is a challenge.
Cheers,

Re: C206
DAD... Likely if already flying at 13 good chance Dad can help out. Partnerships in general for anything can be very trying. I'd love to consider partners in my C180... I basically need it August and Sept. The other 10 months it pretty well sits in the hangar. Problem is finding people with the same interests but not at the same time. Then next to have them qualify for insurance and somewhat to my criteria as a pilot. Lastly coming to terms on how to manage the financials on maintenance and who fixes and pays for what? I think it would be real tough to come to terms with and still be speaking at the end of it. So, I guess the old 180 will sit winters and be rested up for Aug. & Sept. Just looked on TAP for 185 and 206. There are some really well priced especially on wheel gear. As far as traditional financial institutions taking paper on anything for a 13 year old likely isn't going to happen anyway. But it is definitely some nice goals to reach.
Re: C206
When I was a flight instructor back in 1996 (anyone around at the time will remember how scarce work was) I had a 18yr old commercial pilot student. The day he got his commercial licence his dad, an Air Canada pilot, bought his son a Twin Comanche to do his multi-IFR and build time in.
Had my son shown an interest in aviation I probably would have made similiar efforts. But he didn't so I didn't.
Seems this young lad has some sort of support and at least the dream to make it happen so cheers to him.
