Is commercial possible by year end?
Hi,
I currently have my private lisence and 55 hours time.
I want to do my flight test for commercial before the end of the year.
I work full time so i will mostly fly on the weekends.
I have to do approx 25 hours a month.
I want to know if its possible to achieve this.
If I flew on saturday fro 8-12 then from 2-6 this would give me 64 hours in a month.
Does anyone think its to much to fly 8 hours in a day?
Does anyone have other suggestions too?
Thanks,

Yes. Apart from you getting awfully tired, sometimesanyone think its to much to fly 8 hours in a day?
the weather isn't always perfect VMC, either.
Spread your time out over more days. They're long,
fly in the evenings, too.
Book once every evening and twice every day on
the weekend.
On average, you will fly 50% of the time, so that's
an average of around 4.5 hours per week.
Get used to flying in the dark.

If you do not have it get your Night rating, night time is good time!

As Hedley says, use the evenings. You don't need an instructor onboard for CPL timebuilding, so book two or three evenings a week now. Get the night rating so you can go later into the evenings in the fall.
For most people, eight hours flight training on two successive days after a full week at work is not sustainable and you won't retain much. You will lose some bookings to weather, but don't be surprised if you also lose time to fatigue or temporary FTU burnout.
Make sure you retain an instructor who understands your timetable and agrees with what you want to do. That's a lot of time to spend with someone when you are physically and mentally tired.
If you have a significant other, make sure he/she is on board too or there will be turbulence.

Try to have fun - why rush it? if you rush it you're going to just go through it all without realizing the awesome time you'll have and most likely end up getting discouraged when/if you acheive your goal.blueskies777 wrote:Hi,

Re: Is commercial possible by year end?
My advice to you is to get the 300nm out of the way find someone who needs to do it aswell. If you can't find someone bring a gf/buddy. You'll need the PIC time anyways. After that fly a few fun x-countries. Every 5-10 hours go up for a refresher with an instructor so you don't develop bad habits and keep the flight test excersies' sharp. Use the summer to fly and build hours. After you've done the 300 and or night rating, the most important thing in my mind is get that WRITTEN EXAM done, its is by far the most annoying thing to have it sitting in the back of your head, while your training is almost complete and you have to put it off because you need to study. Don't get stuck, study for the exam, get the 300 done and like E-Flyer said, have fun enjoy the training process.

west! If I were you, I'd follow the St Lawrence river
to Kingston, then follow the shoreline west past Trenton
and Toronto Island. Visit Greg in Hammertown. If you
need to, you can keep going to London until you click
off 300nm.
Personally, I like flying along the shoreline. Neat stuff
to see, and easy to navigate. Blue on the left, green
on the right. Keep repeating that to yourself. If the
wx isn't perfect, stay over the water and drive around
the boats. Always plenty of airports on the coast.
I've driven up and down the east coast of the USA
from VA to FL many times, like that.

Re: Is commercial possible by year end?
Another quick note. When it is time to get the 35hr dual training done make sure you pick an instructor who will sit down with you and lay out a syllabus. Not just say "come in and we'll do some instrument work" Sit down set out days your going to come in and fly. Make sure he/she is on the same page as you. I don't know why some schools have absolutly no syllabus when it comes to the CPL and its just sending you off to "build hours" and knock off 35dual. If you get it done organized you'll save time and thats the key to getting it done quick and successfully not flying 10hrs a day.
P.S. Can you tell my commercial has been a horror story?
Once again best of luck!

Re: Is commercial possible by year end?
Why not just head West until you run out of 1/2 your money and then turn around and come back? Perhaps keeping Superior on your left both ways, so that you can see how our American friends do things? For pete's sake, don't burn up the majority of your build-up time farting around in the practice area, or going to the next town over for lunch - this is the only time in your career as a commercial pilot that you'll have your own aircraft, and no-one telling you where/when to fly it. You'll learn far more by going as far afield as you can.So for the 300nm where should i fly to.

Have fun!
