It is exactly like a police checkstop for the air. If you challenge the officer they will just keep you there longer and look that much harder for something you're doing wrong.
I think that the real issues have been beaten to death.

1. It is not exactly like a check stop at all......

and

2. If I understand your post, if you challange the "officer, which they are not", they will just keep looking.....
I think that clearly means that there is an implied threat in excersing your rights. It is intimidation if you believe that in asserting your rights you have something to fear.

Sad, that so many people here are so willing to forgo their basic rights. It is a matter of the rights that the charter of rights and freedoms gives us.

As to the police becoming involved. If the answer to your question that the inspector has no reason to believe you have broken any laws is in the negative, I dont think you have much to fear from the police. They actually understand your rights, although they may try the old "why do you mind if you have nothing to hide" You answer should be simply that my rights to random search detention are protected by the Charter and the inspector said he had no cause to believe I had broken any laws.

If an inspector starts giving you alot of grief, obey now and file a complaint. Because they will win in the sort term everytime.

Don't let one bad experience with TC sour you towards them all. The work for us, they're not going to leave, we may as well work with them.

hippie, my best advice is to go to the nearst TC office, say hi, and ask them. It's the whole help me help you concept.
Whoever you are eternalhold, you are not only naive to the extreme you are giving very flawed and potentially dangerous information.

TCCA is without a doubt the most dangerous government department in Canada as far as denying you your rights is concerned, if they so desire they will and do deny you every right you have under Canada's Charter of rights.

You of course are entitled to your own opinion but your naive belief that if you do no wrong they will not do you wrong is just plain wrong.
If an inspector starts giving you alot of grief, obey now and file a complaint.
Filing a complaint will result in you losing period.
Because they will win in the sort term everytime.
You have that right...and they will win in the long term everytime because they are run by moral degenerates at the top who only show distain for the rule of law...Merlin Preuss is proof positive of that fact.

So what I am getting is that if I arrive at a routine checkstop and I am asked to produce my drivers license I don't have to unless the officer has reason to believe I'm breaking the law?

When I'm coming back into Canada and a customs agent asks to see my passport I am not required to produce it because my word is good enough for proof of citizenship. And if they want to search my bags, I can say no and still be allowed entry?

A large truck does not have to submit to a routine mechanical check because they are in a rush?

If I rewire your house I don't have to let an inspector check the work because they first need a reason to think it's been done incorrectly?

And if I join the army I am not required to follow a lawful order to shut up because it would violate my rights?

How are producing papers, I am required to possess, a violation of my rights exactly. It's part of the job, it's not done mean to be a PITA but it is to ensure safety and compliance with the regulations. If you don't want to be subject to this then don't fly, or move to some bananna republic where nobody enforces $hit and nobody cares.

You must produce the documents that are required by law on demand of a TC Inspector.

That is all you must do...produce the documents.

Unless they are charging you with an infraction of the law why would you offer anything further?

How many banana Republics you flown in eternalhold?

Maybe you could give us a lecture on how to act there also?

Why not Ramp Check yourself before TC comes a calling?

Use the attached form to do so. I didn't create it, just found it during my web excursions.

It looks pretty simple to me to run thru this list and see how close you are to being a criminal.... ;)

The stuff they are looking for is well documented, I guess it's just how far are you willing to let them go.

Cool. Just ramped my machine. Used the deep gravelly voice, the mirror shades and the checklist. Passed!

A commercial pilot flying a Piper Navajo flew the aeroplane on an IFR flight plan as a single pilot while he was required to fly with another pilot. The pilot also failed to give a safety briefing to his passengers and the baggage was not tied down securely in the aircraft. The aeroplane was operated over weight and some of the engine gauges were not in working condition. The individual while confronted with Transport Canada Inspectors denied them access to the aircraft and the police were eventually called in to assist. The individual was sanctioned with a total monetary penalty of $4,750.00 and a 15 days licence suspension.
