Today on that frequency people were talking in a foreign language.
I hear it happens alot on Sunday evenings, on the frequency.
Is there a rule about this?

Note the time of the "babble" and report it to Transport Canada. They can investigate and use the radar tapes to find out who was in the practise area. It might be interesting to see if anything is done about it.
I fly through that area quite often and it is bad enough that some of the students have difficulty with our language but this could get dangerous for anyone doing legitimate airwork.

Re: 122.75, Glen Valley, 17:30 LMT
Hey it is close to where they do not speak any of the official languages on the ground why would you expect them to take advantage to practice their ICAO radiotelephoney in the practice area .Maybe they do not ever intend to fly anywhere where a working knowledge of Standard ICAO radiotelphoney is required .Not just required by law but by common sense where everyone can communicate effectively to improve safety.
That close to American airspace they must be crazies to talk anything other than english in the air as the may get caught in a downdraught from an interdiction aircraft investigating a potential threat to our protectors and neighbours to the south. You can bet that the Americans will know to whom the gibbering belongs to

Why did you build a barn under a practice areaV2-OMG! wrote:You guys are practicing right over my blinkin' head!!!!

Just kidding!![]()
I love living under the Glen Valley aerobatic quadrant. Every weekend I get a free air show!!

lol! I just added to my first posting, skywolfe.SkyWolfe wrote: Did you go get your shot gun?
It's fun living on the cusp of an aerobatic quadrant; great place to plane spot.
BTW, the only thing I'd like to shoot down are the occasional hot-air balloons that scare the chit out of my livestock. I'm temped to paint a hot-air balloon on my barn roof (with a circle and slash over it.)
The light aircraft/aerobatic a/c don't scare me, but the ultra-lights do. One crashed into a neighbour's garage, set it on fire and burned it down. Her house was only 30 feet away.

Why did Transport Canada designate the holy space above my head a "practice area?" lol!2R wrote: Why did you build a barn under a practice area![]()

V2-OMG! so dip your wings, okay???
One of the Snowbirds dipped his wings during a practice before the Abby Air Show. It was neat-o!! Made this poor old farmer's day.
Re: 122.75, Glen Valley, 17:30 LMT
Just do not put a windsock up or someone may land there and ask what kind of pie is on special today

Re: 122.75, Glen Valley, 17:30 LMT
I always remember my earliest PFLs in Devon and the farmers giving me two fingers... Then there was the radio modeler about to taxy his rc aeroplane onto the runway for takeoff as the Cessna 150 squeeked past him at Upottery.V2-OMG
I was told once that the owner of the big (Int'l) field was once sent a Christmas cake by one school... I think that all of us users of the Glen Valley should get together and do something for the long suffering people who live there, they put up with a lot from us.
Perhaps we should organise a Fly-In into the (Int'l) field it seems to be a land-able field.
In England a farmer at New Arlesford used to have a BBQ Fly In after he had harvested the crop and we all flew in to land on his stubble field before he plowed it in.
There are only a few people who go into the Glen Valley from time to time and turn the world upside down...
It wasn't me
There was nobody else there... Sometimes the Glen Valley can be really peaceful.
What's the position of the barn?

A friend of mine was intercepted by one of those ugly black fling wings while flying along 8th Ave at about 1000'...scared the crap out of him. One mile north of the border and a DHS 'copter/DEA whoever getting curious.
V2-OMG, if you see a little yellow aircraft with red wing tips and tail over your barn it isn't me
As for English being spoken in any school on the lower mainland forget it. One Whitey walked into a school in Langley and the noise level was so high from the 6 ESLs that he read the riot act to them about "English Is The International Language of Aviation"...the school owner ducked for cover Grinning!

Man, if the approach to my biggest field was clear, a small plane might be able to land2R wrote:Just do not put a windsock up or someone may land there and ask what kind of pie is on special today
and I'd gladly bake a pie and talk airplanes/flying with anyone!
I guess you'll just have to do the "fly for pie" at the Chilliwack Airport. I've been there a few times. (Drove, didn't fly). It's a great little spot. If I get my RPL or PPL, I want to fly for pie too. It seems to be a ritual for any light aircraft pilot in my area.
Re: 122.75, Glen Valley, 17:30 LMT
Michael, since I'm an aviation geek, I love the aircraft activity. Sometimes WestJet will swoop overhead fairly low on its way to YXX. That always surprises me a bit, considering the abundance of light aircraft activity in the area. Whenever I hear the roar of one of Conair's DC-6's, I always rush outside to gawk. There's nothing like the orchestra of those propellers. I like to think back to the golden age of flight, when airline travel really meant something.MichaelP wrote:I always remember my earliest PFLs in Devon and the farmers giving me two fingers... It wasn't meI didn't do any Hammerhead/Stall turns on Friday morning, but I did a loop, slow slow rolls (80 knot entry), inverted flying with atttitudes and movements
, and a spin... All with the RPM set to 2,400 so it would be quiet.
There was nobody else there... Sometimes the Glen Valley can be really peaceful.
What's the position of the barn?
I've never heard any complaints from any of my neighbours about the noise or potential hazards. There have been two serious light aircraft crashes in the last ten or so years, and we were genuinely saddened that two young pilots lost their lives. (The ultra-light pilot who crashed into the garage was not one of them. He walked away from the crash.) Some of the aerobatic a/c are noisy and distrub the peace on a Sunday afternoon, but as I said, I love watching them - I feel like they're putting on a private airshow just for me!
I liked your story from England, how some of the schools sent Christmas cake to the farmers, but I certainly do not expect anything like this.
Now, as to the position of my barn, I don't know the actual co-ordinates, but my property would be very easy to spot from the air because of a couple of massive agricultural structures right beside me, and that's all I'm going to say.
Re: 122.75, Glen Valley, 17:30 LMT
The cake was given to a farmer in the Glen Valley I believe...
There are two silos next to each other with some barns with cows right in the middle of the valley.
I often use these as a downwind reference for landing West in the big field.
If it's the farm I'm thinking of, across the irrigation ditch to the southeast are three north - south fields together which we use for forced landing practice, the middle one has a tall tree at its south end besides the road.
These fields are long enough if they are firm. About 1800 feet.
If someone were to put a grass strip in the Glen Valley it would be used as the Langley one is often closed due construction and in any case, with this construction the run-off will turn it into a bog!
Fort Langley has gone...
So Delta is the only available grass strip, and there's a complainant who lives at the end of it.

Theres always someone available to complain isn't there? It's like the people who move next to airports and then demand them closed. *shakes head*
I would love to do something nice for the farmers in Glen Valley! They put up with so much!

Re: 122.75, Glen Valley, 17:30 LMT
Can someone tell me which field is the so called "international" Haven't done any forced approaches lately cause im usually number 5 for any of the fields!
Honestly though very rarely have I had a problem out there and as long as everyone is talking even though crescent island is the focus point it's not so "dangerous".

Re: 122.75, Glen Valley, 17:30 LMT
I had someone do a forced approach into the "intl'" one day that was NOT favoring the wind (or talking to me) - as I talked and took the direction that WAS favoring the wind... scared Sh*tless at 500'.
Re: 122.75, Glen Valley, 17:30 LMT
The consideration last night was the Sun...
The wind was light and so even with a slight tailwind it is better to land with the Sun behind you and see where you are going than land into the Sun with no view ahead at all.
There are considerations over and above the wind.
One of my old students came whizzing past last night in her RV6, she said "I'm her man"
Sometimes you have some fun on 122.75

It was also nice to catch a familiar voice on the radio!
