The Empire Strikes Again

Post by Vickers vanguard »

Have you heard about the latest proposal of regulation from TC :?:
According to the proposal, pilots will have to discontinue a non-precision approach at the FAF if the reported ground visibility is less than 3/4sm :!:
I know the issue is not new but it is soon to become a law if passed by the governor in council in the next couple of months. The proposal has already been published in part 1 of the Canada gazette and therefore will only remain there for roughly 60 days before presented for a vote.
As Raymon j. Kaduck wrote in the latest issue of "Canadian Aviator" and I quote ; It is a prime example of what happens when a cabinet minister decides it is important to be seen to"do something" and is given bad advice..................read that as I was wondering the why's of such new regulation when you already have something in place that has worked very well for a long time

Nazim, which issue of the Gazette? Do you have the link? Most of the time the Gazette provides an address for citizens to respond to the issues. Maybe some of us could do so. FYI - usually with the Gazette you have to respond in writing (no emails).

Please post the link or issue #, if you have it.
Thanks

That, in effect, will shut down every operator trying to get into a mine-site in any northern operation.

Geez, i started out by reading the text to see if I could figure out an answer to HZ2P's question - looks like Dico beat me to it, and that was going to be my reply in any case. But, I have to ask, how does Transport do it? Stay awake, that is, while reading that stuff? So dry it makes the Sahara look like a rainforest.

North Shore :

It is written by lawyers and TC employees from the rank of manager to janitor.

They all write their section locked in seperate caves with no means of communication between each other.

When it is finally released to us the poor bastards that are supposed to understand it there is no way on earth you can read it all and keep backtracking and foward tracking trying to figure it all out.

In the end you just have to get in the airplane and f.ck trying to figure out all this B.S. you fly the airplane based on what we have been doing for decades, be careful and don't hit anything.

Boy am I ever happy I don't have to put up with all that shit anymore.

Remember that Transport doesn't fly airplanes. Transport pushes paper.

Sounds like we need some "cost savings" and shut down some ground visibility reporting

Hedley :

I know you can't answer this question but how can any normal person with any common sense or ethics work in that zoo?

Please explain to me what they do once they leave their offices? You know simple things like figuring how to walk across a street??

In addition to expressing opinions online about the new approach ban where we (for once) seem to be in agreement that it's no good, we can all do our part to try to prevent these changes by writing to the Minister of Transport. Try to reference the Issue of the Gazette, Vol. 138 No. 47, when you write in. I would also suggest sending a copy of the letter to your Member of Parliament. This is especially valuable if your M.P. is liberal, as he/she will be able to communicate directly with the Minister of Transport.

Contact info for Minister of Transport:
The Honourable Jean-C. Lapierre, P.C., M.P.
Minister of Transport
House of Commons
Ottawa, Ontario K1A 0A6

Tel: 613-995-7691 / Fax: 613-995-0114
E-mail: Lapierre.J@parl.gc.ca
* NB: When addressing issues in the Gazette, it is always best to send written (i.e. snail mail) replies. Perhaps send a copy of the letter via email, but this email address will not be checked by the minister, rather by one of his assistants.

To find out who your MP is, visit this site:
http://www.parl.gc.ca/common/SenatorsMe ... ect=hoccur

Remember, the key areas to discuss when dealing with any government person and political issue are:
- Money Invested vs. Money Lost
- Jobs
- Impact on small business
- Potential for tax revenue

Another strategy is to copy your local newspaper (or a Federal paper, like the Globe & Mail or Nat Post) on your letter. If you decide to submit a copy to a local editor, try not to get too technical, as this letter will not be printed.

Good luck! Happy writing!
