Define strange. Out of the way, short strips, grass fields, gravel etc...

For example an odd-shaped runway configuration, a fairly short or long runway, hidden in a valley, yeah gravel would be interesting but grass isn't that strange, a large incline on the runway, an optical illusion, ...

Try Thetford Mines CSM3. We got punted out of Quebec city a couple of years ago when our transponder went U/S during a flight. Went U/s when were over the northern USA...no problem with the americans..but that is another story.

Flew to there. An avionics shop and a terminal with a bar in it. Neat little place. You can probably camp there . Give them a call first.
Enjoy.

Morrisburg, Iroquois, Winchester, Westport, Cobden, Tomvale,
Bancroft, Barry's Bay, Elmhurst, Stirling, Norwood ...

I know a bunch of weirder ones, but they aren't open to the public.

Slightly north of track, and maybe not that funky, but a real pleasant airport is Gatineau, Quebec (CYND). You can have a lovely lunch at Restaurant L'Aileron, and enjoy Michael Potter's superb collection of Vintage Wings of Canada. The collection includes a Westland Lysander, Mustang, WACO Tapperwing, Hurricane, and many more. An F-86 Sabre is presently under restoration.

Have to agree with Hedley......Stirling for sure. T/O to the west and the land drops away just beyond the airport boundry into the Trent river valley. Bancroft also can be challenging....landing to the west with any kind of wind whipping around that hill to the east. Been a looonnngg while since I was into either but I knew them well. My dad started the Flying clubs their as satellites to his operation out of Picton.

Ditto on Lachute. GREAT soup! Also, Lamacaza (sp?) was very interesting... near Mont Tremblent. Might be all Intra-wested up, but when I was there, circuits on one side only (mountainside on the other). Very scenic.

Barry's Bay

Cute little airstrip with quite the odd upslope starting at the mid point. The slope is quite steep too.

St Lazarre, very vintage gravel airstrip.

Iroqois... average air strip, golf course next to it. Can go to have lunch their.

Was supposed to fly out to Bancroft a couple of weeks ago with NoFixedAddress, we didnt end up going because of WX but that cliff off the end sure does look like it would make for an interesting climb out.

Iroqois... average air strip
uh, if you call a runway 23 feet wide by 2000 feet long
"average", ok  It's beautifully located right
on the St Lawrence river, sort of in a park right
behind a row of houses. You kind of land in their
back yard.

Gotta tell you a funny story about Iroquois. A few
years ago, flew the Maule in there for their annual
fly-in breakfast (which features beans, for some
reason) with a few friends.

(yeah, yeah, I know that the most improbable part
of this story is that I have friends. Move along,
nothing to see here, folks).

Anyways, I'm following a friend of mine, he didn't
have a lot of experience at the time, but he was
being a good boy and following the aircraft in front
of him in the circuit. It was pretty busy for that
little airport.

Meanwhile, some looney tune in a 172 joins the circuit
at 100 feet (no kidding) flies underneath all the
circuit traffic, and joins final in what appears to be
an attempt on his part to become coincident in
space/time with my buddy ahead of me, who
doesn't see the looney underneath him that he
is converging with.

Watching this, I suggest over the radio that my
buddy bank left on final to gain visual with the looney
and some spacing, and he's shaken by the experience.

Did I mention that my buddy has a legendary
temper? Guess I forgot to mention that bit.

Anyways, we land, and me and my buddy
get out of our airplanes, and he sees the
parked 172 that cut him off, and off he goes.

My buddy is angry enough to kill an elephant at
this point. The guy in the 172 sees my buddy
coming at him like an angry bull, and takes off.

My buddy comes back, slightly winded,
and I notice something.

"Hey", says I, "Isn't that the 172 that
cut you off, parked over there?"

My buddy had confused the two 172's,
which were painted almost the same.

To this day, I have no idea who the
innocent guy was, flying the 172,
that my buddy mistook for the looney
tune. I never saw him again. For all
I know, he's still running.
golf course next to it. Can go to have lunch their
I think you're thinking of Morrisburg (Upper Canada
Village) which used to be a grass strip. Yes, you
can pack your golf clubs into your airplane, land
on the very nice 2800x75 paved runway, and
saunter over to the restaurant for lunch. It's
just a few miles down from Iroquois.

I'll also vote for Iroquois. An interesting place:
(PPR though)
Narrow 2000' runway. Part of a municipal camp ground / golf course / beach. The circuit puts one right up against the US border. One can taxi up to the campground (through the park, over a bike path, next to houses) and camp overnight, and walk over to one of the St Lawrence Seaway locks just beside. The town was one of those moved when the locks were built and water levels rose. There's a tiny pioneer museum there too which has a little bit of info about the Lost Villages, although the real Lost Villages museum is in another town.

Tremblant is likely nice but I was told there's a landing fee.

Volk, just North of YYZ. The north south runway has quite the slope to it. Bancroft is fun.

Windermere off Lake Rosseau
When I used to live in Toronto (shudder) decades
ago, we used to keep our boat tied up in Lake
Rosseau, and we'd fly the Maule up overhead
the 400 traffic to a grass strip on the water,
owned by a guy called Horace Jones. I'm sure
it's long gone now, but it was truly a funky grass
strip

Hey, wasn't Windermere the fashionable summer
weekly cottage rental place?

I also give a thumbs up to Iroquois. My friend owns the house at the west-ish end of the strip, I think he actually helped build the strip if my memory serves me right. There is actually a 9 hole golf course east of the strip in Iroquois too, although it's not as nice as the course at Morrisburg.

St.Jovite which is right beside Mt Tremblant would be lots of fun. Was gonna go there but chose CYFJ instead because of the winds...

Here is a pic of the Runway from Mt Tremblant...

Have fun it is a gorgeous route and would recommend it at the end of September when the leaves are changing.

Cheers

Another vote for Tottenham-Volk. The North-South runway has a nice slope and a dogleg with trees on either side. When you're landing to the south you can't see the opposite end of the runway due to the dogleg and the trees. The east-west runway if very short with a trailer park at the other end.
