Transport Canada medical payment.
Anyone have a link to the online Transport Canada medical payment site? The online one where you can pay your $55.00? I can't seem to find it?

Re: Transport Canada medical payment.
Why would you do that? lol
as you can see I'm still against this "processing fee"
all they're processing is the $55 you give 'em

If I need a licence to earn a living and the government charges me a fee for that licence, then I pay the damn fee. I might not like it, but earning a living comes before standing on a stupid $55 principle as far as I'm concerned.
If it bugs you so much write your MP.

Re: Transport Canada medical payment.
Rockie, when did TC start taking away your right to earn a living flying because you did not pay the $55.00 medical valadition fee?
Must be a new policy because I never paid the fee for about ten or more years and the only thing that happened was they eventually grabbed it on my last tax return.( $935.00 as I recall. )
Not paying on demand was perfectly legal as I used their policy of collecting on tax rebates over payed by me.

Re: Transport Canada medical payment.
People don't seem to have a problem paying every year for their vehicle licence, what's the big hangup with the LVC?
I view it the same as smuggling a $55 shirt across the border. If I'm caught it probably won't effect my ability to work, but why take the chance? My income depends on it so I'm not going to risk f***ing it up for a lousy $55.
The government's response to delinquent pilot's was to collect the money right off your tax so the point is moot now anyway, but they could just as easily have said your licence is suspended until you cough up the $935. What would you do then?
There is no point being proven by not paying, and the only benefit to be derived is making yourself feel like you're somehow sticking it to the government, but you're not really. But whatever floats your boat I suppose.

Rockie, it would seem the only thing we might have in common is we both work in aviation.
However I at least understand the system and know that TC can not deny anyone the right to hold a license because they did not pay the medical validation fee......I understand that because I went to the trouble of finding out exactly how they administrate it.......it is simple, if you don't pay they can try and collect through a collection agency...when that does not work they can deduct it from any tax rebate you may have coming to you because you over payed them......
I don't over pay the supermarket when I buy groceries so why would I over pay the government?

you speak of this validation fee ... what exactly is this? this is NOT the medical exam, this is some other requirement from the government for commercial pilots.Cat Driver wrote:Rockie, it would seem the only thing we might have in common is we both work in aviation.

Re: Transport Canada medical payment.
Aircraft Pilot is not the only occupation that requires a TC medical. (Think ATC, ship captain, etc)
Pilots are the only ones paying the $55 charge, after they have paid the medical fees.

Re: Transport Canada medical payment.
swixtt, in the Peoples Socialist Republic of Canada the population has become so immune to taxes the government now adds fees for most every service or question you ask of them.
The medical validation fee is another tax that Transport Canada levies on every pilot medical that is done in Canada....they charge $55.00 for a " Validation " fee...most of the sheep in Canada meekly pay these " fees " which are just another money grab under extortion.....it is interesting to note that some Doctors still do the complete medical for that amount.
Go figure.

Because it is an easy money grab as noted by this fee payer.Pilots are the only ones paying the $55 charge, after they have paid the medical fees.

Re: Transport Canada medical payment.
Government services cost money. You either pay up front or you pay within some other tax...but you still pay. We went decades without paying enough and if you look closely you will find that debt still there accumulating interest while waiting to get paid off. Who do you think is going to pay it? Americans? Brits? Mexicans?
I benefit from the services Canada provides. Plus I'm still paying for all the years my parents didn't pay enough for the services they recieved. My kids will pay their whole lives for services their grandparents recieved, but at least they're not paying for me. In the big picture am I going to quibble over $55?
So go ahead, call me a fee payer. We are all fee payers, it's just that some of us like to pretend we're not..

Re: Transport Canada medical payment.
i went for my first medical for my student pilot last year and paid $75 for it. once i was finished the test, the doc told me he was going to double the fee because, well, he bloody well could. he went to a seminar and everyone there told him to increase the fee. he made a comment too as to how much they charge for licensing fees, etc. and thought 'if we are passing these guys, then we should get a cut of it as well'. i wasn't too impressed as i have no ambition to go fly commercially and thought there is very little left in the aviation world that seems to help people out.
it seems a bit odd too that the very license that is supposed to detect health issues is good for 5 years. things change in that time and TC will have no idea what has happened. it all seemed to be a bit of a joke to me.

Re: Transport Canada medical payment.
I just charge my company the $55 and be done with it. However I guess not everyone can do that unfortunately.
Re: Transport Canada medical payment.
2 years ago I didn't pay for it and they took it off my tax return the following year. Last year I didn't pay and I got a letter in the mail from a collection agency.Cat Driver wrote:Rockie, when did TC start taking away your right to earn a living flying because you did not pay the $55.00 medical valadition fee?

Re: Transport Canada medical payment.
It's too bad that no one here remembers that the
$55 "fee" (aka tax) was ostensibly to pay for the
AIP supplements that we received in the mail.
Fair enough.
But now that the AIP has gone away, why hasn't
the $55 tax?
**** NEWS FLASH ****
The government lied to us. The government
thinks we're stupid. Looks like they're not far
off the mark.
Taxes always go up. Services always go
down. Get used to it, because the government
does not serve the people - in Canada, the
people serve the government.
It's incredible the number of adults in Canada
who have not yet deduced the above.

Who do you expect to pay for it?

When Cretin came to power in 1993 and went on a crusade to eliminate the federal deficit, it wasn't out of any sense of fiscal responsibility. If fact Cretin was one of the original architects of the deficit in the first place when he was the Finance Minister under Trudeau. No, this crusade was forced upon them by the situation in Saskatchewan that was soon to happen to Canada. And while they did eventually (and painfully) get the deficit under control, we are still paying off the massive debt including huge amounts of interest on that debt every single year, and will be for decades to come.
That is why there are user fees for everything under the sun. That's why the Federal Government has divested itself of everything they could to raise a little money. NavCanada anyone? GTAA?
And it's not just the Feds doing it. Anybody hear of 407ETR inc?
The $55 LVC fee is just a very small slice of $700 BILLION debt that needs to be paid off. It's not serving the government, it's paying for the 30 year party prior to 1993. If you don't pay the $55 they will get the money from you some other way because it's all ultimately going toward that one goal. Once the debt is paid off there will literally be billions of dollars freed up that won't be going toward useless interest payments on the debt, and that's when I'm going to start screaming about lower taxes.
Until then...$55? Big deal!

Rockie,
The governments in Canada over the last several decades, have had no shortage of money, what they also have had is no shortage of corrupt, and self-serving politicians that "spend spend spend". What we need is to spend money wisely, not simply charge more taxes.
How much money is wasted in the public service?

Rockie is right, government employees are efficient and us inefficient wasteful lazy drones in industry should be happy as clams paying all these little $55.00 fees, after all what is $55.00 to you highly paid Canadian pilots?
