Air Mikisew
Just looking for the usual on Air Mikisew. Saw that they are advertising for entry level positions. Did a search and read through some stuff but it was all more than a year old.
How long is the wait on the ramp?
What is the starting pay?
Anything else I should know?
Thanks

Re: Air Mikisew
Tom Tays is just about the best guy around. He worked on the ramp at Mikisew in the past, so he would definitely understand your plight. I don't know if he takes phone calls, but I can't imagine he'd mislead you about anything.

"Entry level positions....."
Ya got a pilot's license?
Do you see the words "forklift", "dock boy", "ramp rat" or "slave" on it anywhere? Then an "entry" position for you ought to be in an AIRPLANE!

If you have any questions regarding the positions that are being offered at Air Mikisew the best bet is to send an email to hr@airmikisew.com

I agree with Doc. The above mentioned positions are good entry level jobs for those who hope to advance to the likes of operating one of those big cranes loading and unloading ships in Vancouver docks! They are not relevant to being a pilot. Working in the docks is a necessary job and pays well. Good luck in your non-flying career!

Re: Air Mikisew
You guys are out of touch with reality. It must be nice to sit in your cozy pilot chair and say don't work the Ramp. These people arent choosing the ramp over flying, they're choosing the ramp because that is often the only position. Would you prefer they paid for a PPC?

Good point.
Lesser of evils? I'm sure there will be less people moving from operators like Mikisew in the next little....

So whats this whole deal with working there and getting flight line, are they lying to us?... at least that's what it seems like.
Re: Air Mikisew
I do not work for Air Mikisew but I do know some people who work for it. So you can take my opinion for what it's worth. It is a good opportunity. You will be able to go from ramp guy to jetstream captain in 3-4 years. The drawback of Air Mikisew is the location. Fort Mcmurray has some of the most expensive housing North of America. If you can share a rental with a couple of other guys then its not too bad at all. See if someone from the company can help set something up for you before you get there. There is nothing wrong with working the ramp to get a flying job. No one is entitled to job because they have 200 hours and a piece of paper. Another drawback you might consider is that Air Mikisew probably will not build your time too quickly. It will probably be a slower time builder relative to other companies. Hope this helps.

At the end of the day its a choice thing. There is no one forcing the job upon anyone.
I expect that they are genuine with their offer of flightcrew after a while on the ground if you have the right attitude and work ethic.

Work the ramp while activly seeking employment as a pilot, and if all your efforts fail to find a flying job well your that much closer to one. Pay attention while your there and learn all you can.

Well said Skudrunner, my thoughts exactly. I also agree with the endless comment on Mr. T. He's a stand up guy and will not beat around the bush. However, he does not put up with laziness and incompetency. Good work ethic and common sense will get you far and fast in that company. As for time building...anything but the medivac builds allot of time. If you get on the Jetstream...easy 900hrs a year.
PS: The ramp salary isn't the greatest but guess what? Diversified (bus company) pays 28$/hr to drive disgruntled oil workers around and they are constantly hiring!! I doubled my salary working part time for them.
PM me if you want more info. Worked almost 4 years with them.
