I heard an incredible "BOOM" once as one of our guys tweaked an FCU on a Pratt JT9 the wrong way at take-off thrust... the flame must've shot about 40 ft out the front of that poor sucker! There were about 5 of us outside the 747 at the nose gear, me on the headset... quicker than you can say "Shit!", I was alone! They'd scattered far and wide at light speed!

But I'll bet that's not the kind of "Boom" you meant, is it?
