Porter Airlines Info Please
Hi all:
Looking for information from those who have actual knowledge, not 3rd-or 4th hand "info", for the usual type of questions. Specifically, typical day, days per month, bid system, training set-up, more the "lifestyle" information vs straight dollars info (although that info is appreciated as well - deductions, per diums, etc).
I've applied several times since before start-up and would really like to work for them. Experience falls squarely between 1st Officer and Captain requirements, but I am totally happy with longer-term F/O. I'm past the point of having "something to prove", and am looking for a long-term company who values their employees to work for.
PM's are great if you'd rather. Any info is appreciated.
Thanks!
bbb

Re: Porter Airlines Info Please
According to their website they want 3000hrs. But they've hired with less, closer to the 2500hr range. Theres a few ex-perimeter guys there too.KenoraPilot wrote:What are they looking at for a First Officer in terms of requirments?

Re: Porter Airlines Info Please
The posted minimums are 3000 for F/O's and 5000 for Captains. Some have been hired with less if the experience is good so don't be shy if you don't meet the minimums. There will be somewhere around 48 pilots hired between November and into the new year with some of those being direct entry captains. Interviews start in October.
Pairings are all during the day and are mostly short, being 1-2 day with some 3-4 day weekend pairings. Minimum of 10 days off, but the average is probably closer to 15 (this month I had 17 days off). Corporate culture is very good.
Good luck to all who apply!

Re: Porter Airlines Info Please
I hear the wash out rate is fairly high during the training process. Is this true? Why?

What's with all the secrets and PM's?
Obviously some people are interested in this company, so spill the juice out in public, that's what the forum's for.

Hi all,
I found these questions from another post and my hubby said they asked the same questions almost word for word! Hope this helps.
Why Porter ?
What are you going to bring to Porter
What do you know about Porter.
What do you think about our business plan.
What do you know about our CEO
What makes a good pilot?
What do you do if a passenger is being uncooperative with a the FA in flight
What would you do if you are flying with a pilot who didn’t follow the SOP

Starting pay for FO is $40,000. Captain is $72,000. Plus profit share from day 1. SGMS has good hints on the interview questions...
I'm not sure what a normal washout rate is, but I would say that it isn't really any worse than it should be at Porter. Where people do generally fail - besides being unprepared - would be flying into the island, which requires good hands and feet to do consistently. Besides being able to land in a small defined touchdown zone, there is a (no autopilot allowed) steep ILS approach on to 26 to master (more challenging than you may think - considering a 64,000lbs airplane with no trailing-link gear coming down at 900ft/min onto a 4,000ft strip). Having said that though, if you truly enjoy hands and feet flying, you'll love the Q400 and operating it out of YTZ.

I was wondering if you could be based out of Montreal. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

We recently had someone leave for porter with 1500hrs.

Hi,
I have a few questions regarding the recent Porter interviews. Has anyone heard back from Porter who interviewed in mid October? Has anyone had their references called? Will Porter contact all interviewees regardless of whether they are successful or not?
Thanks,
HJ

Re: Porter Airlines Info Please
offers from mid october interviews are going out now, many have already received their offers.
Porter will call your references even after you accept the offer, they can/will send out offers subject to acceptable reference checks so dont leave your current job in a poor way.
