Student pilot makes a forced landing on his first solo

Post by valvelifter »

The student was apparently on his first solo according to the press. He had to make an emergency landing in a field after his engine stalled. Good news is that the pilot is OK, despite the aircraft taking a serious beating. Read the story (in French):

http://lcn.canoe.ca/lcn/infos/faitsdive ... 10227.html

I assume he was doing circuits in CYHU, as the airport is just next door, but I do admit it seems a bit far from the airport/runway.

It just proves how important it is to practice these procedures before going solo.

not bad at all... landing on a surface he had most likely never landed on, in conditions hes never experienced (engine failure..no matter how many times you simulate it...its still different when it really happens), with no one else on board for the first time, which means he probably had never landed with that loading before. thats a lot of new situations to push at someone at once. kudos.

Not too many people have ever landed on what appears to be a corn field. :)

All in all, glad it turned out to be ok. I'm a little rusty on my french but I'm pretty sure the news report says "The aircraft was probably piloted by a student who was making his first flight." Sounds sketchy to be his first solo. Just as sketchy as my french...

Two things I hate. News Reporters and Real Estate Agents. Both full of shit most of the time.

lol i guess them corncobs at 60kts could do some serious damage, esp if it was a low wing!!

Stalling can be dangerous especially in heavy traffic.

Well shit, who knew 172s had a geared engine. With a clutch. Too bad he couldn't figure out how to get it started again. [/sarcasm]
