Beaver David clark x11 Headset
I was wondering if any of you have tried the new David Clark X11 headset on a Beaver ???
I'm looking for a new headset and this one look great and less expensive than Bose one...

I heard the PNR is not very good and the ANR will give up after a while. All in all, not a very good headset.
Going for the deck at corner
Re: Beaver David clark x11 Headset
I've been pretty impressed with the Telex brand headset. Same sort of style as this Davie Clark but better passive noise reduction and ANR. And it has neat little features that make sense. It comes with a 12 volt cigarette lighter adapter so you can bypass batteries. Its also made in such a way that you plug in your MP3 player and it will shut off when people talk. It works better in a beaver than a bose and of course its much cheaper.

Tried the X11's in a Pawnee (O-540) and I was not impressed at all.
My H10-13H's perform way better with just passive alone. There is very little passive with the X11's and you can "hear" the noise cancellation.

Re: Beaver David clark x11 Headset
The problem with these 'newer' headsets out is there are no real good durability / longevity reviews. I came close to picking up a 50D or Zulu, but decided to wait it out to see if any fail over time, in the weather conditions we get.
Til then, the 13.4's will suffice.

Re: Beaver David clark x11 Headset
The telex Stratus 50D works great in the beaver. Just strap it to the vertical on the yoke, and clean the wires up and your good to go. Great passive as well as great active. Unlike the bose you don't get an annoying sound in them on take off. But does the music and cellphone cut off when someone talks? Is that over the intercom or the radio?
The more you know the more trouble you can get in!
Re: Beaver David clark x11 Headset
I have the Telex 50D ass well and I'm thoroughly impressed with it. Paid for itself after the first 14 hour day in the Beaver. Both PNR and ANR are awesome. The mp3 input is a life saver on those 300 mile trips into 30 knot headwinds. Overall a good sturdy headset. My only complaint is that I have the slightest of separations along one of the ear seal seams but it doesn't affect the performance at all and I'm just going to have a replacement sent my way. As long as the customer service is as good as the headset, I'll be happy.

I tried the x11 for a few mins in a beaver, might as well been wearing nothing. Not enough passive cancelling. Dont even bother with this one!!!!

Re: Beaver David clark x11 Headset
I personally have not tried either of these headsets but what I can tell you is that the Flightcom Denali is an expensive piece of garbage. The noise canceling in the beaver is ok at best, and batteries only last 4-6 hours, 2 if your using rechargeables. The plastic headband is useless in a Yellowknife winter and the numerous small plastic pieces likes to break. The only good thing about the Denali is that it comes in a Baywatch Yellow colour so you can pretend your David Hasselhoff if your flying on a beach somewhere..... And if your pretending to be David Hasselhoff you have a lot bigger problems than your headset!!!
Re: Beaver David clark x11 Headset
I have both David Clark and Peltor headsets and have taken them both on the Beaver at the same time. After Alternating between the two, the Peltor are definitly the quieter of the two. I have been using my peltors for ten years now and the DC's are in a cupboard collecting dust somewhere. The peltors are half the price to boot.

I use a Telex 50D on a Metro, aint nothing like a Garrett for turning Jet A into noise. Love em'. Great with the ANR on and if I forget to replace the batteries they are as good as DCs for passive.

If anyone wants to buy my David Clark X11's, just send a PM.
(special discount for Avcanada members...)
Hardly used; they were the wrong buy.... Not very good when it gets significantly cold...

Re: Beaver David clark x11 Headset
I sent my X11s right back to DC, they credited my dealer and the dealer gave me a full refund. DC even paid for the shipping back.

+1 for the Flightcom Denali in the cold. Little battery life, even in a "quiet" plane like the beech 99. Too much plastic
Re: Beaver David clark x11 Headset
I've been using the Lightspeed 30 3G for 3 yr. Great ANR. Nice to have the MP3 cell phone plug in feature.
The only 3 set backs are:
1- Not much notice if the battery goes dead
2- If the battery goes dead, so does your hearing - Quieter with the head set off
3- Lightspeed decided to use slight different plugs, won't work in all aircraft
Tried the new Bose. Flew 3 hr..Hated them - lousy ANR and the were too tight
Have had to buy new DC H10-13X. Not as good as the 30 3g plus 9 v battery sucks but...
