Voyageur Pay
Can someone that works for Voyageur please explain to me how their overseas pay works? The website says 2.35 X wage. So if you make 20/hour that would be $47/hour, right. Now how many hours a week do they pay? Is the hourly wage based on 40 hour work week? Any info would be appreciated because I don't want to be blindsided if i decide to take a position overseas with them.
Also, how are they for giving type courses? Do you have to wait, wait, wait....

Re: Voyageur Pay
yes the pay is based on a 40 hour week, so if you end up working 16 hours a day 7 days a week you are screwed. however there a few bases where the plane will only fly 2 or 3 days a week.
the wage is based on 2.35xwage while you are there, when you are home and travel days you are not paid.
they are really good about courses. most of the full time africa guys will get one within 6 months.

Re: Voyageur Pay
a few other companies pay a base pay when you are home say 5000Euros a month and then that base plus so much per day when at work say 200 more per day.
and its a 5 and 5 or 6 and 6 not the shifts Voyageur expacts
some you get a offshore acct and that eases the tax (nil if youre bold)
CHC,Heli Malongo, Medavia,AMS,Zimez are a few off the top of my head
plus the contracting companies out of the UK

Re: Voyageur Pay
They offered me, a 5 year licensed M1/M2 with lots of jet and turboprop time experience $22/h, won't pay for travel time and won't guarantee steady shifts (ie:work visa trouble...). And I only get paid for the time I am in Africa?? WTF? I almost pissed myself laughing. We pay some apprentices more than that!
Hmmm..... I wonder why they are short on guys??? We start guys licensed yesterday at more than that. Really sad!! What I can't figure out is how they keep their licensed guys and their good sheet metal guys?
Best of luck Voyager HR girls. You girls are great but the $$$$ is just not there.

Re: Voyageur Pay
Hey ottopilot,
I don't know what girls your talking about, Voyageur doesn't have any girls in HR. They don't even have an HR department.
I'm not surprised about the 22/hr offer. When I left there I was getting 24/hr. I applied to a few place and they where all paying at least 30/hr.
I would hope that all high up guys at Voyageur arn't sitting around wondering why they can't keep guys.

Re: Voyageur Pay
Stacy and Oriana? That last spelling might not be right but you get the jist. And may not have then but they do now.
Re: Voyageur Pay
I still wouldn't call it an HR department. Non of them are trained in HR. They where in accounting and data entry before.
Re: Voyageur Pay
Does anybody 'in the know' figure the future for Voyageur Overseas looks OK inspite of recession etc..? I'm currently contemplating leaving a pretty good job to apply to the them. Interested in working in Africa and other warm climes particularilly for the winters. Also wondering if there is any obligation to work in North Bay even if you're with the overseas division.

Re: Voyageur Pay
Except for paperwork, there's no obligation to even go anywhere near North Bay.
Re: Voyageur Pay
Voyageur has aircraft in East Timor, Liberia, the Congo, and I hear they will be sharing a hangar with Trans Capital Air in Ivory Coast.
Dash 7 Dash 8 and CRJ200 ops.
As long as the UN doesn't go out of business Voyageur will have overseas work for sometime.

Re: Voyageur Pay
OK,
- Could an M-2 licenced guy pass the 'performance based interview' even without endorsements on any of their aircraft?
- If he did pass said interview, what do you expect the chances of getting the Dash 7/8 course would be?
-What commitment would they be likely to require of a guy who gets their courses?

Re: Voyageur Pay
"Performance based interview" ? Whats that ? All courses are on a company requirement basis. If they need people, they'll train people, regardless of whether they stay or not. End of story. Interviews are just to say "Hi". If you get to know the aircraft in a few months, you're pretty much on your way to getting a course. Whats the hurry, anyway. Relax, take it easy, and things will come naturally.
Re: Voyageur Pay
A 'performance based interview' is where they ask questions like:
-"Give a specific example of a situation where the group of people you work with on a regular basis had a serious conflict. What was the conflict about? How were you involved in the conflict and what was the outcome?"
It's touchy-feely, less about nut and bolts and more about being the target of 3 or so H.R. psuedo-intelectuals firing these sorts of left field questions at you. You'd better not stroke your chin too thoughtfully or look at the floor. Never been the subject of one but I've heard that's how they go about it.
Anyhow, I am in no hurry but I like lining my ducks up. I think that they're obviously a solid company, flying good airplanes and working in interesting places.
Giving endorsement courses though is a big commitment on the part of the company and most aren't willing to spring for it unless they've got their ducks in a row. (ie commitment / contract from the employee) If Voyageur does not do that, they are an exception.
I'd be curious to know what other's experiences have been with Voyageur, that's all.

Re: Voyageur Pay
This is all second party information I have heard but reading through other threads here about Voyageur it sounds pretty much a typical day. A fully loaded Dash 8 was coming into some bum @#$! place in Africa when about 3 miles out the RH low oil press light comes on. Co-pilot suggests they carry out shut down as per SOP's ( I have no idea if it is an SOP but makes sense). Captain says no as they are landing shortly anyways and the co-pilot reluctantly agrees as they are about to land anyways. They unload all passengers and call into Ops for an engineer to come take a look. The OPS MANAGER tells them its probally just an indication problem and to just fly home with full passengers and they will look at it when they return. Co-pilot almosts shits themselves and says no way. They want an engineer to come take a look. The captain agrees with ops and the decision is made to come back. Co-pilot digs in heels and refuses to fly with passengers. A comprimise is reached and the aircraft will fly back without passengers. If co-pilot didnt agree they would have been left behind. Co-pilot no longer works for Voyageur.
How can you tell which one is the pilot when you walk into a bar?....Don't worry he will come up and tell you.

Re: Voyageur Pay
What did the oil pressure gauge say? If the idiot light goes on but the gauge is in the green and responds properly to oil pressure changes.....? Sounds like there could be more to the story than what CO JO says.... just playing
advocate here.

Re: Voyageur Pay
Hey your guess is as good as mine. Your right though, there may be a gauge and thus there would be more to the story. Reading all the stories here on Avcanada and then hearing it from a buddy of mine who himself flew for Voyageur ( no he wasnt the cojoe), I would tend to think there is a systematic problem with this organisation.

Re: Voyageur Pay
Ya, I would agree with that.... though most of the complaints are from the pilots perspective. I haven't heard anything really negative from any maintenance types. Probably because we don't have to buy our jobs
