Re: New Pilot Uniform
I openly like the hat and am proud to wear it. Most people secretly like the hat; that is to say if forced to vote on it, would secretly vote to keep it. It is a celebration of tradition in a forgetful world.
At a previous company the hat was optional. Most F/O's didn't wear it, because yes it looks dorky on a 1900 F/O. I was in the office while a newly upgraded (non hat wearing) coworker was picking up his new uniform. Did he want a "Captain" hat?
Yep.

Re: New Pilot Uniform
my hat doesnt fit unless my hair is really short...otherwise its just really uncomfortable...but I guess it is part of the dress uniform..its a carry over from the military....
Re: New Pilot Uniform
A new hat cost $44 and I think you get one every 2 years.

Neophyte said, "Hey Teacher, have you ever seen an airline pilot wearing any of the following?
- cowboy boots and jeans."
Actually, yes I have. WestJet at Stampede time.

Re: New Pilot Uniform
The long awaited photos have arrived. From top to bottom: Current Uniform, Proposed Uniform, Proposed Uniform with Hat.Notice the subliminal message? The female pilot is only smiling in the photo without the hat. Let the discussions re-begin.

I like the new uniform with the hat. Without the hat they (this is my opinion) look like they could be gate agents.
Enjoy.

Re: New Pilot Uniform
Look's sharp. I don't see why the need to change the uniform in the first place.

Re: New Pilot Uniform
What a waste of time and money. Keep it as it is. Make the hat optional. And give us belts that don't ding through security.

Re: New Pilot Uniform
I agree... keep the old ones, and give the pilots a raise.
I want to die like my grandfather did, peacefully in his sleep. Not screaming in terror like his passengers...
Re: New Pilot Uniform
The new uniform looks like crap. Time and money would be better spent on improving the quality of the existing uniform.
Re: New Pilot Uniform
I can't believe that with the airline losing money, they're even considering spending piles of cash on a new uniform. What's next, the tried and true Milton strategy of pissing away money by painting airplanes?

Re: New Pilot Uniform
Not to mention that they recently did lots of hiring in 2007 and gave out hundreds of new uniforms just a year ago. They probably aren't going to be hiring pilots anytime soon, so why even bother?

Re: New Pilot Uniform
That uniform looks cheap.
I wouldn't even use that tie to wipe bird shit on my windshield.
What a waste of money..you got to be killing me. Pay us more...instead of making us spend more money..on flight attendant uniform!

While it was fun spewing out opinions on this topic, we can all get out of our armchairs now. Seems this thing is very unlikely to go through. ACPA has listened to it's membership.

I am very curious as to who on earth proposed the uniform change in the first place. what department and which person in particular.

Don't quote me on this, don't know the last name, but I have heard that the first name is Richard, often just going by his nickname.hithere wrote:I am very curious as to who on earth proposed the uniform change in the first place. what department and which person in particular.
