The amount of time I have put in this project should appear exagerated if I could calculate all these houres. I only have to say that all my spare times are put in this. Basicaly you may calculate a mimimum of 15 to 20 hres a week and many times much more... But it is a pleasure to do... :)
When you look at the result it is beautifull because all these lights are like a christmass tree. But the back stage is... let see! I show you the back of the MIP. You may have an idea for the Overhead and Aft Overhead!

There's a lot less wires back there than the real deal at least.

Yes this is true, this is a kind of labor of love. It is not possible to spend that much time building it without love!!!!
Thank you for your comment!

Wow,

Congratulations on your project Alain, it is nothing short of amazing. What type of screens are you using to display what's outside? Can you post some pictures?
If I were 737 rated I would certainly help you...sorry.

Thank you Mark,
Actualy I only have one 19" lcd monitor to show outside view. But once completed I plan to have 3 x 24" lcd's. The use of projectors is possible but the quality and luminosity are very low. So I prefer lcd's...
What are you rated? maybe you could answer some general questions????
Thank you

Alphatango,

I am rated on the 737NG, I work in Asia but come from time to time to Quebec city.

If you didn' t find any pilot before my next travel to Quebec, I would love to help you and give you some instruction on your simulator.

You did a great job!

Jetflightinstrutor,
For sure I would like you to help me here. I understand that you are unstructor... What more can I ask! In most you are on 737NG's. You are my Idole... :)
Seriously I would like you contact me when you will be here in Quebec. The best would be that you advise me one day before if possible. One other guy seems interrested also, but I will accept anyone who is interrested in giving me some help and in teaching me. It would be a pleasure to meet you.
Mark, yes I did many flights with the sim and it responds very well (with my knowledge of the 737NG). With the exception of some particular items that will be fixed with some more times. Honestly it is very satisfying.
Two real Challenger very experienced pilots tried the sim and they were amaized... One of them told me "my carreer is ending, yours is beginning"... I understood the chance I had at this moment even if I was very jalous of his job!!!!
Understand??? :D

alphatango, couple of things about Projectors, if you spend a few more dollars you can get them at a higher luminosity so they will be brighter. I would also suggest a rear projection setup if at all possible, they look 10x better then going with front projection. Also be careful of your mounting position. If you are setup in the basement I would suggest you fold the image with a mirror and securely mount the projectors to the floor shooting up. Otherwise like in most wood framed houses the floor moves a bit from above when someone walks. This will cause projector jiggle which is kinda of sucks. Otherwise a freestanding mounting solution would be what you want.

As for preferring LCD you can get 1080p LCD TVs for about the same as a decent projector in the 42" range. All you need is a DVI->HDMI cable and you get full digital 1080p from the computer that looks amazing. 1920x1080, which is better than most projectors in the same price range which are usually 1280x1024. Also in the $1000 range not a bad price. Of course this usually drops after Christmas.

I would personally go with the LCD TVs as they are brighter, better resolution, cheaper than projectors. LCD Monitors are really quite expensive for not many more pixels.

Hi 200,
Thank you for your comment.
First, in my setup it is not possible to use rear projector, as my room is very short, then not possible to use any rear projection.
The second possibility is to use a curved screen with a curved Sintra mirror (first surface mirror, as in reflector telescopes). This solution would be possible but the projection surface would be too short anyway with only one projector. So the best solution in the near futur is to use the TH2GO video card with 3 x 24" screens. Maybe when the market will offer 120" flexible screens I will switch to this solution...! Until there... :)
For the LCD tv I aggree with you and it is a possibility. However as the distance between the glareshield and the Overhead is only 7-1/2" the height of a 42"lcd tv is not well used... So, as it is the cheapest solution, I keep my mind of using 3 x 24" lcd's waiting for the 120" flexible screens... :)
Regards,

Yes tight dimensions are a difficult solutions, and at 7 1/2" the viewing distance is not ideal for LCD screens.

As a heads up the Maxtor Triple Head to Go is CRAP! I have tried to use them and they are not worth the box they come in. Nothing but problems. Our application uses accelerated 3D extensively. All is not lost you do have a couple of options. One is simply run dual PCI-E video cards. Almost all modern decent main boards are equipped with dual PCI-E video cards and if I recall FS-X will span the three quite nicely. Unfortunately the same is not said for X-Plane due to the nature of there 3D. There is also a card that supports quad output on a single PCI-E graphics card if required.

When you decide to build a sim it is not for the exterior view but for the simulation of the interior of the aircraft, mainly. This is what you give most importance... This is why until now I have not given much importance to the exterior view. I would say that this is the cherry on the sunday. And it will be the last stage of my construction, once my sim will be as a real Boeing 737NG aircraft... :)
While we discuss various topics, I would not want to lose my request...

I am in search of a real or retired B737 pilot... :)

Hey Alpha, why not throw up a little item on the Westjet forum with a link to this thread? I am guessing that a 737 pilot isn't reading the flight training forum as frequently as student pilots are. Although we're always student pilots and always training, this forum leans more towards initial flight training.

I cannot believe the degree of detail and the amount of work you put into this. CONGRATS!
I built some stuff in the past, and looking just at how you route the wires tells a lot about your pursuit for quality and perfection.

I flew a lot of time on 737-200s, it is not the same thing, but I may be able to answer some questions for you. If I can help in any way please PM. I currently fly glass equipped planes, so that may help too.

All the best with your project.

This is real nice comments. The result of that work is the result of passion, thats all... :)
If you ever come in Quebec let me know. You could visit, see and try the result in real. Or if you know a 737 pilot who leaves here in Quebec would be great.
Once more thank you for your comments,
