Where is a good place to do an instructor rating?
Hey everyone I am looking into doing my instructor rating and I am not sure where to do it. I am currently working in NWO on the ground and have a rotation with ten days off and was looking to doing my instructor rating as I am not getting the right seattime I was hoping for. I am originally from souther ontario so schools in the toronto kitchener area would be best. Thinking of the whole maylan thing for a job after if it still looks good.

Do a search on here and research maylan a bit.
No trees were harmed in the transmission of this message. However, a rather large number of electrons were temporarily inconvenienced.

BEEEEP HONK BOOM CRASH ... cars pile up and a big chaos.
You're wanting to do your instructor rating BECAUSE you're not getting the right seat time of a fairely complex aircraft?
My first word of advice, don't get into instructing if it's for the flight time, do it because you like to teach. You know why I say this? you're going to be responsible for the pilots you put out there, and if your heart and soul is to fly right seat on a bigger aircraft which would open up doors to Air Canada for you, you won't give your heart and sole to instructing, as your mindset will be elsewhere; thus, you won't really care about your students.
I really think you should stick on the ground and wait for your number to come up, don't get your self into something you wouldn't enjoy. The instructor rating ground school by it self is a concise ground school and if you don't have the motivation to even instruct with that same heart and soul i talked about, you won't even pay attention in class and would most likely just want to find a way to pass the written and flight test.
I am not judging you, I am just telling you what I see your reasoning of wanting to become a flight instructor as.
If you want to do a great instructor rating program however, try lower mainland. PRO IFR, Coastal Pacific... they have some great programs and concise ground schools.
Cheers

E-Flyer I under stand your consern and everything. Although I do like helping people learn things about anything I used to be a tutor at college and a guy in my class said he wouldn't of even made it through one of the classes if it wasn't for me. Also I was a swimming instructor for three years and was asked to be the supvisor of all the instructors but i turned it down cause i'd rather be in the water to teach.
I know I can teach flying and would like it alot. I have the ability to do the rating and to teach and instruct some great pilots. But I do understand your concern compleatly; I have seen some crapy tutors and instructors that just did it for the money or to say they help people.
SO any place in southern ontario would be great I did my ppl at WWFC and my commercial at one of the colleges in ontario. Just looking for a good price for the rating if anyone has some info the WWFC web page has nothing on it about an instructor rating and i am waiting for a reply.

I started my instructor rating with Glenn. Learned a ton! I doubt you'd be able to get him anymore. He does the Flight tests for the instructor rating now.
However Alan in Cornwall is a class 1. and you'd have Glenn as a resource.

College, that's great !
Just out of curiosity, what hindered you from getting into instructing at first then? You seem to have it in you.

Re: Where is a good place to do an instructor rating?
Try the Brampton Flight Centre. Great airplanes.....2 twins....very established school!
Re: Where is a good place to do an instructor rating?
I agree with qa guy, Brampton is a good place. If you choose to go there, I would most highly recommend Rob Carney. I know he's a little busy, but he's definately "real-world" based and doesn't just teach you what you need to know to pass the tests. (learn HOW to teach, not just WHAT to teach) Their website is http://www.bramfly.ca/
If you're looking to do it with a little more 1 to 1, I would also highly recommend you do it with Stu Fairchild out of the Debert Flying Club. I know you were looking for some place in Southern Ontario, however Debert Nova Scotia is one nice place. Stu wouldn't be as busy and you'll be able to be tutored by one of the most experienced instructors in Canada. Besides, spending a little time in an airplane in Nova Scotia's well-known "marvellous VFR" weather would definately make you a much more confident instructor. Hope this helps.
