crew house etiquette

Post by water wings »

well, any of you who have ever had the joy of residing in a staff house will no doubt have something to say here..

if you haven't read and learn.

it seems that the general do unto others BEFORE they do it to you is sadly, the norm in many a staff house ( i am in no way refering to my 2 loverly roomates at the present time, just being in a staff house has brought to mind charming things that have happenned to myself and my friends)

things NOT to do:

!-eat the other pilot's food
!-drink the other person't booze (even if they are out on rotation)
!-go through the other person's PERSONAL files by entering their room in their absence.
!-come home stumbling pissed at 0 dark thirty and wake up your happy roomie on Medevac call
!- be aware that just because your flight leaves in the afternoon that maybe theirs doesn't
!- be aware of the volume button on the TV and on your mouth
!- damage the other's property (computer, clothes etc) just because you don't like that person. (You don't have to like that person, you work with them, you're not married to them)
!- take hours in the bathroom, using up all of the water (not HOT water, the actual tank in the living room runs empty)
!- trash talking said person to their FO or Capt. instead of dealing with it one on one or the appropriate powers
!- be aware that anytime you are hanging with work people, it is STILL a work environment. Have fun, but act accordingly.

Anyhoo, please feel free to add all any tips for the future resident of crew houses, or enlighten those that are already in your bad books. I am interested in what else i may have to live with in the future.
Me? i'm perfect, now run along.

Memories....back to the time I was in boarding school...
Don't forget an assembly of beer drinkers gathered in front of a porn movie making subtle comments...

Hey Wings....it's a sad state of the industry when, guys who can be cut loose with a million dollar airplane, have to see it in print, that they cant drink the other guy's beer!!

This is giving me flashbacks to the YIV crew house. God I don't miss that place!

It would have been so much better if there was beer there!!!

!- take hours in the bathroom, using up all of the water.
I know someone who had the silly idea of complaining to his Chief Pilot about the crewhouse (filled by 3 other guys) and its lack of warm water in the morning.

CP answer:-"You just have to wake up first!"

After giving my nuts a good scrubbing with Mike's soap, towelling off with his towel, I slipped into the kitchen to grab one(or two) of his beers. Went out to the local skank market and picked up a dirty girl. Made a wet spot on Mike's bed but mopped it up with his towel. Sorry Mike! Thanks for everything!
PS I borrowed a clean pair of socks from you and your Hugo Boss jeans.
Cheers, wp. 8)

holy cow...you fly a plane worth a million bucks? they actually have those in Canada?

Stony Rules, i've lived in 4 crew houses (YSF tempo guest only) and i'm not picking on anyone, but thanks for replacing the booze in any case!! :) he doesn't need it anyway!
There are bigger worries in staff houses... like the time one of my co-workers in the FA world brought home a "nice" local girl in YFB and was kind enough to let her puke in the kitchen sink and in the toilet (she missed on that one) and left it there for us to see (and clean) in the AM. It was steak night at the Legion. it was steak night in the sink. yummzerss....

ps...by your reply, are you feeling a little guilty? joining avcanada on the 15th just to make an apology? relax...

I had a few roomates that didn't respect my room...I had to move out
when I found they discovered I had the most comfortable bed on the block.

Image

So I looked for a place that was more...quiet...until I got a little freaked
out when he asked me if I repent to Jesus and needed to be "healed"?

Image

Then I met a guy that only went out at night...I lost many sleepless nights for some reason.

Image

Finally, I said 'screw it'...and commute from the Rock!!!!

Rules don't really work well in my crew house. I love it! Although, trying to keep a stock of booze in the cabinet is a hopeless task.

Speaking of crew house type situations, living in Grove when I was in SSM was a blast! Cheers guys.

I'm not trying to stir....

But as maint' I try to stay in only maint' houses, no pilots. Why? Cause pilots can't leave work at the hangar. They talk planes too much in the houses. Life is grand, I like 4x4's outdoors and scotch. I don't need to explain a system or snags to death while I'm watching TV.

So my tip/rule is try to keep the plane take to a min. recognize the problem. Save your maint' guy the q's and yourselves. It will only get yah rilled up.

I'd say though the majority of the houses I have been it were a lot of fun. Respect others space and it's all good.
