First off I'm a new Firefox user.
When I close the last tab, I want it to open my homepage. Right now it opens a blank page. Anyone have a link to the add-on they use?

You might want uncheck "Always show tabs" bar under Tools/Options/Tabs. (Exact names may not match, my Firefox's in French)
Otherwise, this might be a "bug" (or a hidden setting), in that you actually can close the last tab left open, but can't decide the program's behavior when that happens.
This might be a little early as you say you're a new user but you could always look at Bugzilla to make a report. (It requires a one time registration and a quick search to ensure you're not making a duplicate)
