Re: Sean Avery
I think it's hiiiilllllarious... but yeah, he's a total dip shit. Might never play again, but I'm sure he doesn't care seeing as how Dallas has him signed for another 3 years. They're stupid for signing him that long.
I wonder if Dallas could take him to court??

Re: Sean Avery
Avery was a douche bag before those comments. They didn't make him more so. He didn't say anything any guy on this board hasn't said, or thought, at some time.
The NHL and Bettman have just proven they are hypocrites.
"Instigators", like Avery are paid to beat the crap out of the opposition. If, maybe, by fluke, they can score occasionally, great. The NHL says he should be held to a, "higher standard". What a load of crap! That's like asking a heavyweight boxer to study the finer points of ballet and develop an appreciation for macrame.
The NHL encourages creating the monster then whine when they can't control it. They're the real douche bags.
If, as Dallas claims, they told him to say nothing, they may have some reason to be upset. Not the NHL.

Re: Sean Avery
Sounds like six games is the verdict... he also has to go to anger management and see a therapist or some shit. And Hull says he's gonna play again.
Whatever though, it'll be over in a couple weeks and he'll be out antagonizing the opposition once again.
You're right about that. Avery's position has always been to get a rise out of the other team's players. They encourage it... but to an extent I guess. I think he went a little far on this one. At the same time I find it entertaining and funny as hell. I'm pretty sure he was told to stay away from the cameras, so Dallas management should be pissed.tellyourkidstogetarealjob wrote:The NHL encourages creating the monster then whine when they can't control it. Re: Sean Avery
Let me understand this: people have their panties in
a bind because a violent goon (enforcer) isn't a sensitive,
new age, kind & gentle, politically correct guy?
And all this fuss (and a six game suspension!) is over
a very mild "sloppy second" remark?!
Hockey fans are such idiots. It's ok to beat the crap
out of someone, but it's not ok to make a silly comment?!

Re: Sean Avery
Heh! When he called all those reporters to gather round, his intent was pretty clear. He knew damn well his comments were going stir up a shitstorm. He was looking for trouble and he got it. Rightly or wrongly, only a fool would expect to deliberately make a comment like that and get away with it in this day and age. But he's no fool, he knew what was going to happen and he's probably still snickering over it.

I would guess that most of the fans out there, like myself, think this is absolutely hysterical. I hate Avery but I also love to watch him play. He's a riot. And like stated above, this is part of his role as a hockey player... he's an instigator on and off the ice.Hedley wrote:It's ok to beat the crap

Problem is this guy has a past of causing shit... this wasn't the first time he insulted someone on national tv. For example, one of his former coaches had a twitch (like a head tilting kind of thing). And when he was playing them, he skated up to the bench and mocked his disability by imitating it. The guy is an asshole... plain and simple.
You're gonna get in trouble for doing something like this, whatever sport it may be. I his case, however, this wasn't the first incident... and it almost certainly won't be the last.
Anyway, like I said.... hysterical.

Re: Sean Avery
I agree somewhat, but look at Avery's history... the guy needs to tone it down a bit. I also happen to know a lot guys who have played OHL, WHL, etc. and he's plain and simple... a piece of shit on the ice/off the ice. Keep the trash talk on the ice. He's lucky he's not suffering a lawsuit due to this. I personally don't give a shit... like I said before, it's all entertainment to me.Nightshiftzombie wrote:What the hell has the NHL come to? Is there a Dallas/Calgary game yet to come? Could be a wicked fight ahead of us...

Re: Sean Avery
Avery is certainly NOT an enforcer. If anything, he's a pest....a little weasel who is very careful who he pisses off. He has the occasional fight, but never with 'enforcer' type players. The little fawking coward skates away or turtles when those guys come knocking.
He's an idiot and an embarrassment to the league. It wouldn't bother me one bit if he never played another game in the NHL. Or at least was moved to the habs, he'd fit right in with those buffoons.

Re: Sean Avery
Yup, he is a weasel and a coward most of the time. But he antagonizes and pisses people off to the point where it throws them completely off their game... does a damn good job of it and adds strength to the team by doing so. He is a slight embarrassment, but he doesn't give a shit, he's Avery, it's what he does. The Other Kind wrote:Avery is certainly NOT an enforcer. As far as moving him to the Habs, myself and the rest of the greatest fans of hockey don't want him. You must be a Leafs fan, so you can eat shit.

I'm not a fan of(NHL) hockey. It's too watered down. Too many fights. People say "that's part of the game.." I call bullshit. If it were "part of the game" somewhere there would be other "sports" where players act like total assholes in a way that would get you or I arrested on the streets. I've heard all the arguments. i don't agree that "it's part of the game...." Funny, how when you watch a top international series, it's suddenly not "part of the game.." Or the seventh game in any Stanley Cup playoff series......not "part of the game..." there either. Just during the (way too bloody long) regular season, to hold the attention of the red necks who go to see "the fights..."

The issues here isn't what he said, but where he said it. You don't drag people's girlfriends/wives/kids/families into it especially in the public view.
Avery should have saved it for the ice if he felt he had to say it.

Re: Sean Avery
You are right, he crossed over the line. A lot of people have pointed out the hypocrisy of the NHL for allowing people to beat the shit out of one another while condemning Avery, but they've overlooked the core issue. You cannot have people pulling innocent bystanders into the fray, ever. This is just common sense. What's next, comments about the opposing coach's daughter? The beat reporter's wife? You can't allow this shit, and the NHL was 100% correct to step in immediately.altiplano wrote:The issues here isn't what he said, but where he said it. Re: Sean Avery
You sure do have the "quote" feature down cold. I'll give you that. But, other than the odd, Boston vs. Montreal, or Detroit vs. Chicago, I couldn't GARA about the NHL. Hockey is a great sport for kids. Most of us played it as kids, and our heroes were the likes of Gordie Howe, Bobby Orr and the Rocket. But now, it's a really poor example for kids. Piss poor role models. Guys like Avery should be shot and pissed on. I know I'm in the minority here. That most of you like hockey. Me, I'll continue to watch the NFL. And the LPGA. End of rant.Just another canuck wrote:Dust Devil wrote:Just another canuck wrote: Well you've heard all the arguments so I won't bother defending fighting... there's no swaying your opinion.
