Anyone who ever claimed that this career choice was easy started their career in the 60's and 70's. If you have already put time in with a company on the ramp, you may be better off sticking with them if you think that it shouldn't be too much longer till you get some airtime. However, there are a lot of companies out there that will give you a chance right off the bat. You won't make much money and you will work long hours, but it's better than standing on the ground wishing you were up there. Get in touch with Sandy Lake Seaplanes. They are a great group of guys and have 206's on floats and a 207 on wheels. If you have a float rating, go to any of the companies in Red Lake and bug them till they take you on. Kenora air service is also a place to get some starter hours and not a bad place to work if you can avoid ever having to see mary jane.
Good luck and don't get down on it. It's a long road to being where you want to be, but in the end I think it's worth it.

Have you had anybody check the spelling and grammar on your resumes?

Sounds illegal. Check the labour laws...know your rights. It is your decision to make-if you really don't like it, then leave. Do what makes YOU happy.farmerjoe wrote:In various instances, one may articulate a message in organized and proficient comportment.
And sometimes, ya just don’t giv a shat. i just pulled another 16 hour day out in the -30 blizzard. so pardon me if i hop on the forums to get some motivation in life, and throw down some short note
stick with the company eh. every day i ponder if this is the best place in canada 2 ramp. it goes something like this
isolated rez up north
12-16 hour days, everyday, 31 days a month
ive been told 6 months straight, 2 weeks off
1g salary per month, accomadations included (averges $3 an hour)
maybe a couple hours on a ho a week
estimated wait for flight line, 8-12 months

You need to get back down south and check into a mental health clinic.
The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

FJ, try and find out which operators hire first officers on types that don't require them
i.e. single pilot IFR gigs where the operator has decided to send inexperienced commercial pilots along with the PIC for various reasons
at least you'll be in an aircraft
if these types of operators aren't hiring for these positions then see if they hire pilots off their ramp or dispatch
wasaya and georgian used to operate this way in the late 90s early 00s
otherwise come back down south and get your instructor rating

And that's why I got out of the industry that is called aviation. I Just fly privately, when and where i want.
Screw that 12 to 16 hour days everyday for peanuts, anyone offering that can kiss my ass ( no offence to anyone on here, just my take on it).

Thats an absolutely horrible schedule, I don't know why you are there. Lots of people work the ramp, but they dont have to put up with that shit, assuming you are telling the truth. If it is that bad, get out of there today. You may have to find another ramp job, but do some research, lots of good companies out there. If they are that bad, then do every new hire a favour and tell us the name of this company.
Good Luck

If that's what they're offering then I really doubt they have anyone else ready to drink to koolaid. You could start by asking for minimum wage paid hourly or you quit. I'd also take the accommodations. Really you should be making 12-20/hr, ask what the check-in girls are making.

Re: 350 tt, cant get off the ramp, ill go anywhere...but where
I think changing seats would be tough given the current financial crisis.
If you can't stand it and you are being treated unfairly .. i guess go. You need to stick up for your rights as well! Just remember that may come at a cost.. and be prepared to face that cost with a smile. (see below)
However, be prepared to drive a truck, mow lawns or do something non-aviation related for a bit until the spring hiring season kicks in or the economic recession is behind us. I'm sitting at 750+TT and Im washing A330's, looking into getting my airbrake and driving a truck while still applying for work in aviation (after ramping for 5+ years prior to this mess-believe me that took some cringing. However, given the current economic situation i'll be thankfull to drive a garbage truck and make some $) Hopefully, this whole mess blows over!
At the same time, if you can get a seat and put yourself in a good position to leave said craptacular company for a better seat come the next hiring "boom" i'd do that. .. As opposed to leaving aviation.. and waiting for the next boom then starting back at square one. (that'll suck) Also, could you improve said conditions at Craptacular Air?
Do you you guys/ gals think there will be any hiring in the spring? I'm curious as to how long i'll be driving a truck and ramping LOL
Just a few things to consider..
Just my .02
GOOD LUCK!!

i think there will be jobs to be had however few and far between. I noticed that where im from (Ontario) given the econmic situation, there are still lots of people spending, may be just xmas time, but i would still think there will be travellers hence FEW jobs to be had, But I figure few is better than none, so lets cross our fingers

Don't feel any shame for you. Should have looked into this career before you started it and done some investigation ahead of time. Unless your daddy owns his own company, or works for AC somewhere, you'll have to stick it out just the way you are I'm afraid. Seriously, who flops down 40-50-60 THOUSAND DOLLARS just because 'I wanna be a pile-ut"? What did you expect? Did you talk to anyone before hand, or just flop right into it? I'm guessing the later. Sorry pal, its not easy, and if I were you, I'd head back to college and take an AME course to keep in the business (and it pays better to), even ATC, or just leave altogether and start something else, like a trade.
Re: 350 tt, cant get off the ramp, ill go anywhere...but where
No offence, but you're a fuckin idiot for working there if you knew that's what the job was all about. I guess at the end of the day, even instructing would have been better.farmerjoe wrote: stick with the company eh. every day i ponder if this is the best place in canada 2 ramp. it goes something like this

When I read your posts I cant help but get the feeling that because it is so cold up where you are, you have come here to fish.....If that is the case, you have reeled in a whole bunch. If not, you really should be giving some thought to getting out of there.

I think most rampies in Yellowknife make 30 a year, usually long waits but its enough to pay the bills.

How will you ever afford your first PPC when you only make $1000/month???
No trees were harmed in the transmission of this message. However, a rather large number of electrons were temporarily inconvenienced.

Jesus christ get out of there, follow the advice of people in this thread lol. I just work at a hotel in Catering part time 3 days a week lately and I get your monthly "wage" in a cheque! That's just wrong!
