Question about tylenol/advil

Post by Tim »

anyone know if you can take either and fly? or how long you have to wait if you can't?

I've heard people some people say you can take both, some that say one or the other and some that say none at all. Any CAMEs wanna chime in?

I doubt you will find a CAME on here...

Whenever I have a question like that I just call mine and he is more than happy to answer.

I think you should contact your Aviation Doc and have his opinion. That way, you cover your ass and you get a straight answer.

But in the end, you're the one that know your body and how it reacts to some off the shelve medication. Personally, if I take any more than 1 tylenol the night before, I won't go flying. Not only because of the medication effects (which, on me are innexistant), but also for the fact that there is probably something else than a bening headache that's going on and I may not want to fly in that case.

Like AuxBatOn said, you know your body best. I take a Tylenol or Advil and it doesn't do anything to me at all. I need a few just to get an effect from them.

Legality issues?? Don't know, but it is just Tylenol...

yeah calling is definatly the smartest thing to do. it's one of those things that i've been meaning to do, but always forget to actually do...it popped into my mind so i thought i'd throw it out there and hope for the best.

that's sorta what i was asking for. i've never felt any sort of symptoms what so ever, but obviously that doesn't mean there aren't any. i'm gonna call on monday and ask for a verdict. i'll post the results.

I take Tylenol or Advil whenever I feel like it. I've never had any problems with either. Advil (ibuprofen) works best for me. Tylenol is just a "brand" name for acetaminophen. Two or three if I get a headache. I've used them before, during, and after flights. Never a problem. These "medications" are pretty benign. It's not like you're popping codeine, or heavy prescription drugs. If you're an adult, listen to your body.

I consume Advil before and after most flights. They do rot out your liver and stomach though.. My only complaint is that they are not multi-colored like m & m's :D

If you are going to use them in conjunction with Scotch, I'd recommend Lagavulin, and only after the flights

I was told that since they both say "may cause drowsiness" that they are not approved for while flying and follow the same rule as prescription drugs. I would ask your CAME for the truth though. As one person said If you are feeling bad enough to be taking the meds do you really feel fit to fly anyways?

I agree with Doc. Whenever I've got a headache, I take a couple and don't give it a second thought. Do you ever take pain killers and go drive your car? Same diff.
