Was sitting in an AN-2 yesterday in Oshawa. It was in the same hanger as my Pitts. That in itself was hilarious. My little 17 foot wing span 6' tall Pitts next to a HUGE AN-2. The AN-2 in Oshawa has a VIP interior. The owner was showing me the vodka and shot glass storage cabinet, complete with crushed velvet holders for everything.
Can you imaine the STC required for a shot glass/vodka cabinet

L-29 looks ok in flight, but not so good on the ramp.
The L-39 has that long, sexy nose:

how many of those are your toys, Hedley?
Re: What a deal!! v71 Aerovodochody L-29 on E-Bay
I've been divorced twice - I don't own anything!
But I do have an ICAS card valid for:
Pitts (all, incl S-2B, S-2C, etc)
PT-22 Ryan
450hp Stearman
700hp clip-wing geared 3-blade-prop Harvard/T-6
Citabria
No one seems interested in half an ICAS card, or
half my ATPL/ratings, so I guess I get to keep those

Hedley,
I agree the 39 is much sexier than the 29,
but with the new "viper" engine, the 29 is a rocketship!! heck even with the stock engine, the 29 would be a riot!
google Euroburner, and Viper.

Yah I know, the viper L-29's kicked ass at Reno this year.
But they still look awfully dumpy on the ramp (sorry).
The thing to remember is that they're all straight-wing
(mach 0.8) airplanes, a subtle nuance that most people
don't get.
I really like the L-39 - more than I thought I would. Even
though most people put down east bloc designs, it's a
very good airplane: on-board APU (good for 24% RPM
from an internal battery start), a RAT, lots of redundancy,
easy to maintain, easy to fly, amazingly efficient in cruise
(120 gph at 17,500 feet).
I will admit that it's a pig to taxi, but the secret there is to
get the speed up to 15 mph or so, where the rudders start
to become effective, to get rid of the annoying oscillation
in yaw with that stupid hand brake (much like a boat at
slow speeds).
