In Canada Co-pilot time is counted as half. Is it the same in the states or is it worth the same as PIC? Interesting to know if the half time thing is Canada specific or not.

In the US, if you are the sole manipulator of the controls, thats considered PIC, only for licencing purposes. If you go to an employer, they will count it as SIC, but we're only talking for the ATP right now. SO, every second leg, sign it off as PIC.

No, its not counted as 1/2 in USA. You need to do a flight test to get the rating though. The PIC and x/c requirements are the same as Canada last time I checked, which was a year or two ago.

The time requirements are, but I dont think TC will allow you to log PIC if you arent flying the left seat.

That's correct. In the USA, student pilots, as I understand it, log PIC, not dual. Instructors log "dual given," not PIC...completely different than Canada. But the 1500hrs time requirement is the same.

Now here’s a question I’ve been trying to dig up with no luck yet. I keep getting different answers from TC.

If you hold an FAA ATP with let’s say 1750tt and 1500 hrs cojo time logged...... can you do a straight conversion to a TC ATPL? Has anyone done this? You hold a valid FAA ATP but you technically don’t meet the requirements for a TC ATPL.

I’ve got a yes and no from TC. Just wondering what you guys think.

Well, the TC ATPL would be based on the FAA ATPL, so I dont see why not. Just get the name of the person who told you yes, and go apply for your licence with them

Im pretty sure there is no loophole like that. Even tho you qualify for a FAA ATP, with those hours you dont qualify for the TC ATP. I could be wrong, but Ive heard there is no loophole like that. Best to contact a few different people at TC to find out.
