I'm sure First Air and Canadian North are thrilled about this.

HMMMMMMM....This is a little too convinient. WJ pulling on up in YZF, and now rumours circulating of Canadian North's economic woes. Coincidence??

I think we're all open to speculation on this one.

West Jet in Yellowknife???

Post by MaximumAmazing »

I know Yellowknife is a nice place but I don't see the need for 4 major players up here. While the 4 airlines are busy cutting each others throats I'm going to fly home cheap!!!!!

5Ts's woes are due to the price of oil.

The fact that 5T has been ramping up all year to crew for increased oil sands work that was expected to happen in 2009 but has now been put on hold due to the low cost of oil and the economic downturn.

What does Enerjet have to due with 5T's contracted client?

On that note I heard EJ's -700 had cold weather issues in Firebag yesterday which grounded it for awhile.

Well......you (FICU) said 5T ramped up crews and aircraft for all the oil sands work in 2009. Now that Enerjet has entered the market and has already secured one major oil company contract, it means less flying for 5T.

I THINK that along with added competition on their scheduled routes now has created the WOES we are seeing at 5T.

Canadian North is one of the best airlines I have flown on. I only wish them the best in the future.

5T's ramped up crewing was for it's contracted client not... anything Enerjet has secured.

From what I have heard 5T has had a VERY good 2008. It's 2009 that is the concern as I'm sure it is for all airlines including Enerjet because their flying might be cut as well.

Awhile..really...it was on the ground for an extra 10 mins, still left before sched. and the issue had nothing to with temperature.

The work that Enerjet picked up was flying that was being done by Suncors RJs out east. They don't really have the legs for transcon flying! Again nothing to do with what 5T does.

Not right away, but i'm paying almost half of what I was 4 months ago. I don't think it is fuel prices, it's lack of work.
But I guess in a sense your correct. It is due to the price of oil, not for the fact that they can't afford it. But because the lack of work because no one can afford to produce it.

Im definately not saying there is any conspiracy going on here. The series of events which has arisen is simply coincidental. We know there is only one airline that can operate successfully in the North, due to its development up there in the past.

Lol, I can see who bleeds teal in this discussion.

While I don't have any specifics, it just seems that 5T underbid anything and everything in the north to get where they are now in size. Matching 7F in almost everything they can. Expanding like crazy. Maybe it is all profitable, but maybe not.
