I would ask around Wasaya or Superior, see if anyone is looking for a room mate, they could also point you in the right direction for finding a place.

Re: YRL accomodations
Yeah when I was in Red, finding a place was next to impossible... and I don't suppose it's changed much.

Re: YRL accomodations
I used to live at Nature's Inn Apartments in Balmertown. You're looking at 900 per month though, I am not sure what your price range is like, but they were nice enough for me and my standards are higher than most. Check out the local paper or talk to some Wasaya guys.
YRL is a nice place, friendly people, great for anyone that appreciates nature or the outdoors, I thought it was a great place. There aren't many amenities up there, but the amenities it did have, I miss in the arctic
so be happy with what you've got, no matter where you are!
Enjoy

Re: YRL accomodations
Checkout the Nova Apartments.
I heard one guy just left. It's owned by Brad and Shirley Johnson of Johnson Glass. The apartments are in Balmertown and the owners are in Cocheneur.
Balmertown is closer to YRL than Red Lake is.

That's where I was when I lived there. Decent places and nice and close to the airport. Cheap too... I think they were only 600 bucks when I was there.

Thanks a million everyone. I am going to Call Nova soon as practical. Very happy to have learned about them. I have friends there and only ever heard of Natures Trust which is very pricey.
Thanks again and Merry Christmas

Last update on rent at Nova is $670-680/month
I paid $650/month when I was there.

Re: YRL accomodations
Some of the best places in YRL aren't advertised... make a few friends, ask around! There's something to be said for word of mouth in small towns!

I'll ask tomorrow, since I'm here. Anyplace owned by Larry is going to be a rip-off.

We used to close the Snake Pit and pass out in the plane. Ah, the good old days!

Ah yes, the Bomber.....and a pitcher of Pilot Pitfalls.....same result.Just another canuck wrote:Brown Bear wrote: close the Snake Pit
You're a brave one... I stayed away from there for the most part. It always got sketchy once the hour started getting late. The Bomber was good enough for me!!!

Re: YRL accomodations
Your company should be putting up til you find a place... everyone knows how difficult it is to find a place to rent there.
moonduster... this is just an idea. I stayed with a woman in Red Lake who is a secretary/dispatch/possibly night guard for the OPP there. I can't remember her exact position nor do I remember her name. But if you go to the OPP and inquire, I'm sure they would know who you are talking about. She's an older lady... probably in her mid/late 50's. Ya know, she might work at the hospital as well... not sure about that though.
Anyway, she rents a couple bedrooms by the week or month. It's pretty cheap... I think her husband passed awhile ago and this is why she does it. You can also mention to the OPP that she rented to OPP officers over the years as well as MNR/Fisheries guys.
It's worth a shot if you're gonna be on the street.
Cheers,
JAC

I would like to point out that the Red Couch behind SAAN was an accepted Red Lake address that the post office use to deliver mail to & yes they do still camp out there.2R wrote:Do they still camp in the old mine behind the Saan store ?

JAC Thanks for the wicked tip.
Just a little FYI sadly the SAAN store closed this FALL. You boys missed out on the amazing prices!!!! But I am sure "camping" still takes place.

Re: YRL accomodations
I know it's been said already, but have you gone up to the Wasaya hangar/office, Superior, Wildcountry (pretty sure they're not operating anymore, but is someone else)... can't hurt to try.
Hey, maybe if you drink enough at the Bomber, they'll just set a cot up for you.
