I sort of expected you guys to win this battle. Not sure why. Maybe its because we all know how pen air is such a good group of people.

I never did get a reply from anyone at tradeport or any city councillors. Good luck to all the staff. This really is sad.

Regarding the PPL Ground school, glad to announce the pop mid-term exam went fairly well. Thanks again for not throwing any shoes at me. Taking a Christmas break and resuming Jan 7, continuing at the Air Cadet Squadron on Homestead. Thanks again for the use of the facilities, everyone is extremley thankful. So untill then, we are only half way through, lots more info to digest, keep reviewing your notes, continue forecasting the wx and take care over the holidays. To everyone, Merry Christmas and may the best of last year be the worst for 09. Instructor Bob

QMU was my first-solo plane. Sad to hear it was left behind. I'll never forget how "fast" it seemed climb once that 240-lb instructor rolled out of the right seat :P . Seemed like yesterday.

It was also nice to not have to endure charlie horses on the take-off or landing roll :P . Some great memories I shared there as a co-op student, student pilot, and employee.

Here's hoping for round II in the New Year.

Merry Christmas to the past and present PenAir team.

I've been watching this thread for a while and am sorry to hear things have gone south for Peninsulair. I instructed there from Mar. 87 until I started with Ontario Express in Aug/88 and then some part-time after that.

My first flight was with Bill Tourtel in Tomahawk GRQJ. Still remember spinning that one and GTGX. Lots of time in those Cherokees and loved flying the Seminole.

Good luck to all!

Cheers

It is truly amazing the number of, "friends of Peninsulair" that are involved in aviation today. Many pilots, AMEs and support staff got their start at good old Hangar #2. PM me if any of you would like to be a member of the private forum that Avcanada has provided us with.

Cheers,

I don't know why it surprises me that the corporation that chased all the training organizations out of YHM is the same one who so poorly reacted to the weather week at Vancouver.

Presumably their next airport "improvement" will be evicting the air cadets and the wing?

Boneheads.

Funny you should say that...the 447 is "soon to be done"....those poor veterans are scrambling for new digs. Tradeport is obviously on a mission...however, I have been advised by a reputable source that CYHM may very well go down to Class E with a MF, because of PenAir's closure...mmmm I wonder if that was in the agenda???? Any comments? Wouldn't it be funny if Tradeport ended up trying to work something out with PenAir....once they woke up from their coma????

I was in YHM this afternoon (Dec 31st) at the Esso. It's just not the same without Penisulair and Haza there! Who am I going to annoy with my MU2 taxiing circles infront of your ramp office? I hope things improve for you guys in the New Year!

I have heard plenty of confirmation regarding the downgrade to Class E airspace but question how they plan on maintaining the Class 2 approach without control?
Next - DOES THE CITY KNOW THE STATE OF THE AIRPORT and how just a touch of cooperation on their part with the training end of things would save it?????????
I don't know the people involved as I am not from Hamilton but I am curious what the people of the city would think if a red flag was raised and all of this was made public?
Please keep posting of any news or progress?
Loving PenAir

I heard the same rumor today...and do not intend on contradicting anyone, especially Dr. Frosst, but...it has been said that the Bank stepped in on December 2/08...we flew 4 planes out in the middle of December and I happen to be in possession of the keys and journey logs for those planes, so I think there may be some confusion. I can further say, that as of December 24th, when I spoke to Marty, PenAir was still in the process of attempting to remove the aircraft that were under repair when Tradeport changed the locks for "non renewal of lease", so I certainly can't confirm Dr. Frosst's understanding of the events.

I think we'd be silly to think that there's not larger issues at hand here. The City has absolutely no say in what is going on at the airport, since they gave Tradeport an extremely sweet lease with "quiet enjoyment" for 40 years..lol...that means they can do with the Airport anything that they want to do! The City relinquished all of their rights for a portion of the profits and promised growth (more taxes!!!), but as of 2 years ago...(and things haven't gotten better), Tradeport has failed miserably.

Exactly what is Tradeports agenda? Perhaps they're planning on rendering Hamilton International useless? Perhaps they're in bed with Toronto and plans for Pickering? You can't tell me that "World Class Airport Operators" would actually align their stars for a notching down of Airspace Class, or even risking it, but then again, from the way they've been managing their own YVR ...well, I guess we're simply morons for even questioning their actions! It's sad that PenAir fell victim to these ego's.

Here I was, just about to continue with a CPL and INRAT and called the Peninsulair number. No ring! WTF?
Then I emailed Dr.Frosst, as he had my log book and had calculated the time I needed.
I just got the bad news today!

I just typed a scathing email to Frank Screminor...

I am numb, but... the Phoenix will rise!

Have any of you thought about forming a "new" flying club? We could all get together as an assioation and get a plane and as you said, live the dream.

Thoughts??
