New License Update
Submitted my application for the new ATPL early Nov. I have seen other pilots apply after me apply and receive theirs. Upon checking with TC, I am advised that my license is being processed and should be ready sometime in March "Not to worry". Yeh, right, don't worry, be happy. And this is only the tip of the iceberg. I'm guessing the reason it's taking so long is because they hired all the guys from gun control who have lots of experience in public dis-service.

What little I do know is either not important or I've forgotten it!

Re: New License Update
One up on ya-submitted in late August....asked whether I had a "commercial"...replied that I had an ATPL and was told they weren't doing those til after March. Just shake my head!
Re: New License Update
Lost Lake - takes longer when you don't actually have a licence.

Re: New License Update
At the control tower where I work we were given the applications.

Re: New License Update
I must admit I haven't been following this whole thing very closely, but a friend told me yesterday that if the new license is not applied for/received? by March 31st the old one is invalid...... any truth to this?

Re: New License Update
That's probably true because:
1. they didn't tell us very effectively that it was coming, or much else, for that matter; many still don't know;
2. they delayed and waffled and f*rted around with the format until Preuss's brother could set up the presses for the most expensive booklet style of a size that was most likely to be lost and then would cost the most to replace, was decided on (note the fee for a passport);
3. its only a (complicated) piece of paper that summarizes all your quals., ignores the Radio License and is only in existence for the pleasure of TC (and to impress the simple-minded in bars for seduction purposes) and for the edification of the uneducated who populate the Customs departments of 3rd world countries who really DO want to see your license, even if they can't read it;
4. see the other thread on getting a job with TC.

Here is a link to the FAQ section about the new document:
http://www.tc.gc.ca/civilaviation/gener ... letfaq.htm
13. What will happen if I submit my application for the booklet too late and have not received a booklet by the time my licence expires?
Your licence will expire on the date associated with your licence or permit, as indicated in the table published in the Canadian Aviation Regulations. You will no longer be allowed to exercise the privileges of your licence or permit after the expiry date.
Please see the Advisory Circular found on the General Aviation website, to help you determine when you need to have your photographs taken, when to submit your application and when your applicable licence or permit will expire. The Advisory Circular is available at Advisory Circular for Aviation Document Booklet.

What region did you apply within?
I submitted mine mid Dec. (pacific region) still waiting.

Re: New License Update
So if you send your application in in mid Feburary and it takes TC as long to process it as it has for lost Lake that would mean you are either can not work or you chance a fine if caught flying with your old document?13. What will happen if I submit my application for the booklet too late and have not received a booklet by the time my licence expires?

That word really gives me comfort, because it gives them the option of refusing to allow you to work based on their agenda of the moment and who they are dealing with.25. What happens if my Aviation Document Booklet is lost, stolen, not received in the mail or rendered illegible and I urgently need documents to allow me to exercise the privileges of my licence or permit?
You will have to report the occurrence to your regional licensing office by submitting a declaration stating the circumstance of the occurrence and your circumstances. The regional licensing office may provide a “90-day document” granting temporary privileges for the licence or permit you require.

Re: New License Update
Luckly the Maldivian Government accepts me for who I am, so I still have an ATPL. Wonder if it's good enough for a JAR though?? Oops, don't want to let that Canadian license expire, I'd have to do an english proficiency test, a Pstar, an IFR ride, a hearing test, pay a fortune, kiss some bureaucrat's ass, spell airplane, or aeroplane, or airoplane, stuff a personal PLB up my butt, uh, too much to think.
I am not a canadian robot, I am not a canadian robot, I am........ Thank god we are a democratic country and the government works for us!!

Re: New License Update
Is this really like the fifth thread complaining about this! It takes one hour of your time and costs ten bucks for the photo, and maybe if your lucky your company will cover that. you drop it off, it shows up. It is one of the new rules, don't like the rules don't play the game, or position yourself in a job that would give you some input on the subject (TC).
Now with that said, I think that the new booklet could have been a bit better in some areas, and they probably should have mailed out an application to all active pilots to inform them. Not really a big deal.

Great advice there desertduster, if you are not happy with being forced to do something that TCCA dreams up that adds zero to your qualifications to fly an airplane then you should quit flying. Is this really like the fifth thread complaining about this! Yeh, you have it correct, how stupid of us to not be true professionals and always carry KY lube with us.
Will TC pay me the four hundred dollars an hour I charge for my time plus expenses desertduster?

Re: New License Update
You should re-read Lost lakes original post. ( RTFQx2) He said he applied early Nov.(almost 2 months) and has yet to get his new lic. I dont see where he is bitching about the process.desertduster wrote:Is this really like the fifth thread complaining about this! The only one that gets off on a rant, as he usually does, is CAT.
That aside I too am waiting for my new document. So far it has been just shy of a month.
Mind you it was over the holiday season.

^ Yes, Cat, that's pretty much what it comes down to.. TC sets the rules, and if you don't like them, then either join their team to change them, quit and do something else, or stick out like a nail and wait to get hammered..
Bitching and pissing and moaning on a semi-anonymous internet forum gets you nowhere - has TC/Merlin Preuss ever taken you up on your challenges?

Of course not North Shore.has TC/Merlin Preuss ever taken you up on your challenges?
Has that shown you anything?
Or are you satisfied with the way things are?
.or stick out like a nail and wait to get hammered.
I did.
Has what happened shown you something?
Maybe it won't North Shore, but please at least be fair enough to separate me from you as far as being semi-anonymous goes..

Re: New License Update
Actually, boys, it isn't just Cat "...who gets off on a rant..." because I think the new license is twaddle too and I've said so clearly every time I get an opening. I have a very nice ATP license from the FAA that is plastic and a credit card size and has everything I need on it - universally recognised and even has a nice photo of Orville and Wilbur on it and the sucker fits in my wallet. With TC I'm going to be getting garbage in the mail from them and leetle sticky things to glue into my little booky and I think its CRAP! With the FAA I only get a new license when I add a type because I ain't getting any more licenses - the rest stays on their computer.
While I'm on a roll (ahem) has anyone tried to use the FAA website? If you ever want to look up anything aviation, its there. Its all there. I wish I could persuade them to put up the CARS! Talk about a useful site. Want an MMEL for a DC3? Yep.
I think that CD is the only living person to ever actually get any information from the TC website, and that's only because he is very good at mining information; the rest of Canada would rather be boiled than go on the TC site.
So leave Cat alone - whether you know it or not he's probably saved a few of your miserable lives.

Well for sure Xsbank I doubt if there are many on here who beat all of TCCA hordes of lawyers by the simple means of using the law to beat them.I think that CD is the only living person to ever actually get any information from the TC website, and that's only because he is very good at mining information; the rest of Canada would rather be boiled than go on the TC site.
I owe that to my own lawyer who after representing me in a meeting with Nowzek and three of his minions told me to save my money as I could do just as good a job of beating them as he could.
I paid my lawyer and started on my own....
...how many here have ever got these people backed far enough into a corner that the Director General Transport Canada came to their home to deal with the problem because you would not meet in his office?
I'm waiting with bated breath.......
Furthermore a lawyer could never ever, ever, get away with using plain language like I do, that incidently even the dimmest witted in TCCA can understand.

Re: New License Update
Hey XS Bank, with the credit card licence in Canada, do you think we could charge our medical, license, etc on it?
CAT, yeah, the gov't thrives on lies, graft, and ineptitude. Shit, if we didn't have a government to tell the tax payers and voters what to do, what would we do? The only reason Canada is a great place to live in is because the government tells us!! Oh well, I rant. Because we are "Canadians" we will whine and complain behind closed doors.
I'm tired, going to bed. Too busy flying to care right now.

Re: New License Update
Wow, did I ever neglect this. Sending the application for the new IMPROVED booklet off today.
Just on a side note, my wallet was stolen in Lancaster, CA this past summer. Lost everything, basically. Applied for a new birth certificate from gummint of AB and... guess what? It doesn't fit in a wallet anymore either. In fact, it's such an odd size that it won't even fit in my daily planner. So what am I supposed to do with it? Frame it?
Honestly, it seems like the Canadian gummint can't leave well enough alone. I have the credit card licence from the FAA too, and it works very well.

Re: New License Update
I take it this expiry date is your medical or PPC? As our licenses do not have an expiry per se, just medical validation and currency. (You may have to explain this to me like I'm a two-year old.Your licence will expire on the date associated with your licence or permit, as indicated in the table published in the Canadian Aviation Regulations.

So if my medical/ppc are completed in March, I can submit my application by March 31st and take my sweet ass time waiting for the new license to arrive, being as my old license won't turn into a pumpkin until April 1/2010?
Shitty for those who have medicals or rides shortly after the March 31 deadline.
TC really could have been a lot more organized with this implementation. They've only been harping about it since when...2005? They know where I live, they have no problem sending medical processing fees to me. Why couldn't I get a nice license applicaion package delivered to me?
