Can someone tell me how I can get access to last weeks CADORS reports?
If I understand correctly, TC has temporarily suspended public access?

Thanks for any info.

What do you mean by public access?
As far as I know Joe Schmoe off the street has never been able to search CADORS, only registered companies. Is my understanding incorrect?

I agree with N8, I wasn't aware of any public access. For example our Ops Manager is the only one with access to determine incidents with only our own aircraft. From what I understood, its purpose was purely to inform Managers of companies as to what is happening to its aircraft. For example we rent our aircraft, and Joe Renter is ramp checked somewhere, and forgot some document. We could potentially never find out, which is where CADORs come in.

It is also possible for companies to have access to the CADORS database. In order to have acces to the database, the following information has tom be sent by e-mail :

Name

Company

Position in company

Postal adress

Phone number

e-mail

Use of CADORS

This information will be used to set up the account.

IMPORTANT NOTICE :

Our policy on dissemination of aviation occurrence information is currently under review by our legal and Access to Information and Privacy branches. As a result, we have implemented a temporary 'freeze' on granting new access pending resolution of these concerns. We hope to have these issues resolved shortly. We will retain your request on file and will contact you at a later date. In the meantime, we remain available to answer your questions.

For those of you who do not read too well:

- The only way to get access to CADORS is by asking TC for it and telling them why you want it.

- No new access is currently being granted, but TC would be pleased to answer any questions you may have if you will just hold for a minute maam ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... click.

Moving:

Are you talking about a weekly summary of CADORS incidents or access to the actual database?

ahramin -

I will take a summary if I can get it.
I am aware that there is no way I (nor any of us) can get access to the database.
I guess I should have worded my post a little more carefully.

Thanks.

This never made any sense to me. The American NTSB posts preliminary reprts of incidents and accidents right after they happen yet for some reason this info is classified in our country...what gives?

I would love to have a system like there's for getting the info out. Have a look for yourself: http://www.ntsb.gov/NTSB/month.asp

linecrew,

It isn't designed for classifying accidents, but rather incidents. Such as someone flying through restricted airspace, or flying through controlled airspace without ever contacting ATC. In Canada we too publish accident reports for the public, but the CADORS is for companies to check up on what their aircraft are doing.

Sorry, my bad.

Anyone have a link to recent accidents in Canada? I've been to the CASB site but didn't see anything beyond the year 2002!!

My bad, should have read your first post more carefully, and was in no way implying that you yourself do not read, was just summarizing the info.

My guy in transport is in texas doing checkrides and no one else at transport seems to know anything about it. May have more for you next week.

linecrew:

The TSB does not normally publish anything until the final report. No use looking for preliminary stuff unless it is of a size comparable to swiss 111. In other words no cross country news coverage, no info.

Here is the latest.

New access to the CADORS has been suspended for security reasons. No one can tell me who or why. No one can tell me when it will be restored. And no one can tell me who can tell me.

I suppose one could call the Prime Minister and work their way down with more success but he seems to be a little busy at the moment.

Why am I not surprised? :P

Thanks for the help.

One of the reasons acces to CADORS has been suspended is the new Privacy legislation that came into full force Jan 1 2004. Everyone in Canada who owns or operates a company public or private has to ensure the privacy of clients etc. this includes transport and the pilots it serves. Until the (TC) get a ruling might take a few years the information is going to be kept internal.

The article What's On-Line! in TP 185 Aviation Safety Letter Issue 4/2007 mentions:

CADORS—Now Available on the Internet

Transport Canada collects aviation occurrence information through the Civil Aviation Daily Occurrence Reporting System (CADORS). The purpose of the system is to provide initial information on occurrences—involving any Canadian- or foreign-registered aircraft—and events that occur at Canadian airports, in Canadian sovereign airspace, or in international airspace for which Canada has accepted responsibility. Transport Canada endeavours to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data contained within CADORS; however, the information should be treated as preliminary, unsubstantiated, and subject to change. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) is the official source of aviation accident and incident data in Canada. CADORS information can be found at: http://www.tc.gc.ca/cadors

Yeah, I don't understand, I've been reading them for the better part of a year, and I am Joe Public, no special TC privileges, just went to their website when I first heard you can look these up online.

With the link above, in Carrier's post, it takes you to the query page that I've always used.

Is there another class/category of CADOR that I'm not able to see without "special" access?

I've seen all kinds of incidents on there, busted airspace, accidents, all kinds of stuff.

It's been part of my regular reading material, lots of good mental-note-don't-do-what-he-did stuff in there. I'd be very disappointed if they took it away.

This works for me http://www.tc.gc.ca/aviation/applications/cadors/English/main.asp and I made no requests to TC - I just found the site browsing. I think it might have something to do with privacy and cookie acceptance settings on your computer that maybe limiting access to some users. However, on some days I have problms completing a 'Query' the first time; but the 'National Report' is always accessible

It was useful to us to find out one of our floatplanes had flown through an active restricted airspace when the organization responsible for making the restricted airspace 'hot' (DND) had forgotten to pass along to NavCanada this rather important info  . I never would have known about this unless I happened to peruse CADORS every now and then.

Well probably a lot of people are looking for CADORS right now, so it's perhaps not a surprise about the ressurected thread...it still seems like some users can't get acces to the CADORS for some reason.

I was wondering when someone was gonna bring up the fact that if you Google 'CADORS' and pick the FIRST link that comes up, you're in :P

Just to clarify...ramp checks or other such actions by TC are not CADORS issues. Generally only NAVCANADA reportable incidents or accidents are entered into the system.
