Re: Carson Air
I don't think you mentioned anything about the hiring... so your answers confused me at first.. I thought they were in order

Thanks for the info. Does anyone know if they are indeed hiring?

Re: Carson Air
You should call the Owner, he's a great guy to chat with... or not.
Re: Carson Air
there are other threads here that deal with some of the questions.....
schedule is mon-fri for the cargo side, both in vr and yc. medevacs are different 4+4/5+5 etc.
Not much movement at the moment, so unlikely to be hiring anytime soon. That's for both the cargo and medevac side. Minimums are 1000 TT + 500 multi. And you need to be up to date IFR-wise. You fly 80 + hrs a month normally; no autopilot. Hard work, pay is low, but the flying is good and you will definately get the skills in a Metro.

Thanks for the info
whats usually involved (requirements wise) in getting directly into the medevac side? Thanks.

Re: Carson Air
What I find odd is pilots ask about benefits, schedule and pay before other things...
I had the opportunity to work on one of their planes and noticed they kept them clean and well maintained. It was not a shabby plane. The engine was clean and tidy... these things stand out to an AME. Where opposed to a Jazz plane I saw up close that looked like a serious turd. With thousands or so of smoking rivets and old stains.
For time builders, there is something to be said about just being able to strap into something that isn't unsafe or shitty.
Now that said, it was a brief moment I saw this plane, and the pilots were very happy with maintenance.

Don't be disgruntled....move on!

Re: Carson Air
You either go into the cargo side or the medevac side...very few have moved between, although it has happened a couple times.mattas350 wrote:Thanks for the infowhats usually involved (requirements wise) in getting directly into the medevac side? Thanks.
It's cheaper to hire an outsider and train 1 pilot, than transfer internally and pay for 2 initial courses. Right or wrong, that's the reality.
As far as I know right now, there aren't vacancies on the medevac side, but if there were, you'd be looking at around 1500 to get in, with some decent IFR experience in there. BCAS requirements. There's a bit of wiggle room there, as BCAS will give conditional waivers if no qualified crew are available, and a position needs to be filled.

Typical. Ask these questions:
Get these answers:Pay
Upgrade times
Schedule
Benefits
Then follow it up with this:Criminal

From what I've heard the bond is big, the pay is horrid, the sched is aweful... But I have only heard that from friends of mine who have worked there. They fly a lot, so you could build time there, but just don't expect to make enough money to pay your bond off when you leave. Thanks for the info. Does anyone know if they are indeed hiring?

Re: Carson Air
From a strictly maintenance perspective, when I was there I found it a good operation, with no one from management ever demanding anything but a legal, airworthy aircraft. Was a good crew of guys in yvr, with one notable exception.
In short, have no worries on the mechanical side.

Re: Carson Air
Fair enough!
Good luck, we all make choices, just don't be mad at Carson or the CP if YOU make that choice.
Edited for stupidity!

CADORS, for the most part, Aren't worth much to judge a pilot or a company on. And besides, if you go to fly for them, doesn't mean you have to be adding to the CADORS.

Re: Carson Air
Cadors aside it's still not an ideal place to work. Horrible schedule, worse pay, and no benefits. Why is the compensation bad? Because the turn over is high, why is the turn over high? Because the compensation is bad... Vicious cycle we have here don't we? And it will only continue when people know the compensation is bad but still ask "anyone know if they're hiring?" There is always someone who will work for free, and in an effort to get a head they inadvertently devalue our entire occupation. Some can justify it by saying they're "paying my dues", but the truth is you're not. There are a few entry level gigs that actually will pay you enough money to live where you work, these are the places that need to be promoted on this forum.
Re: Carson Air
When i worked there, about 3 years ago (for 6+ years) there was profit sharing as well as health and dental benefits. And there are at least 20 ex Carson guys at WestJet now. From number 50ish in the pilot list, up to the 900's.
