Who own's the orange 172's in YEG
There are a pair of orange 172's parked over by shell in YEG. I've heard they might be a church group that runs them, is that true? They might be needing a compss swing or at least the pilot's that run them might want to learn which way is north.
Re: Who own's the orange 172's in YEG
Its not a church group. They are used for pipeline patrol and are a part of Alta Flights.
following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.

Lets blame "Bush" that's a fail safe isn't it?

O.P.I.: System Safety
Narrative: The pilot of C-FAFW, a Cessna 172 operated by Alta Flights, was cleared for takeoff on Runway 02 from Taxiway B1 at Edmonton International Airport, however Tower Controllers subsequently observed the aircraft departing in the wrong direction on Runway 20 from B1. C-GAEO, an Airborne Energy Solutions King Air 300 was on a 3-mile approach to Runway 02, opposite direction to the Cessna. Tower instructed the Cessna pilot to stop and the takeoff clearance was cancelled. He was also instructed to exit the runway on Taxiway B2. With C-FAFW on Taxiway B2, the crew of C-GAEO was cleared to land on Runway 02. After landing the crew of C-GAEO commented that they didn't think that C-FAFW was across the hold line on B2. Tower then instructed the pilot of C-FAFW told to line up on Runway 02 at B2. C-FAFW was then observed once again lining up in the wrong direction on Runway 20 at B2 with B737 traffic 8 miles final for Runway 02. The pilot of C-FAFW was told to turn around. and when observed facing the correct direction, he was cleared for takeoff on Runway 02 from Taxiway B2.

WOW, most places I have flown if you messed up and did that they would just tell you to shut down and call the tower, the tower guys there must have alot more patients.

Have to put a plug in here.
the folks at Edmonton International and the ATC folks there, are some of the best I have encoutered throughout the world.
Even had the duty officer come out one night and drive a patient because we could not taxi to the main terminal (security reasons). They also have a sense of humor..many years ago I remember trying to negotiate a clearance with them for special VFR one dark night to hop over to the municipal.
I never did have, or truthfully, take the opportunity to say thanks to them
Common sense still seems to be in evidence there....hope my post wont cause you an univited visit from the reg/Nazis.
BTW...Calgary, for the most part..Not far behind...
Toronto and Vancouver...not so much.
Now back to the topic...did I get this right...he tried a second time to take off the wrong way? Hope he can find his way to the EI office OK.

It is myself Gerd who was flying that orange 172. There are 5 of them doing pipeline patrols. Been flying since 1967. Have 9000 hours. Had a crappy day. Entitled to one occasionally..

Hey Gerd
Good for you, I know you can fly circles around these guys. Shit happens once in a while, so don't let these "Doompkopf's" get you down.
