Starlink Aviations Yarmouth Run

Post by fortis risk »

I understand that Starlink Aviation is starting a run from Halifax to Yarmouth. What aircraft type will they be running.

Years ago there was an operator running a Caravan on the same route, it didn't last long. Does anyone know why it shut down.
Thanks

i heard they're using either a jetstream or metro. Don't worry they'll soon fail and more people will get laid off.

As far as the previous service, I have no idea but am curious.

They will be using 2 Jetstream 31's. Basing them in Yarmouth of all places....pretty sure the NS government has a financial hand in this one.

This deal seems from the outside, like yet another waste of government money to try and force an air service into the maritimes. Not to mention that the gov't is competing against their own ferry to Maine.

The drive from Hlaifax to Yarmouth takes about 3 to 3.5 hours. If one were to drive from downtown Halifax to the airport (30mins at best), check-in and clear security (15-20 mins), wait for departure (30-45mins), fly to Yarmouth (40mins), wait for a taxi/drive to destination (??), well you're not really ahead at the end of the day. Factor in whatever they charge for airfare versus gas at 90/litre to drive and it's a no brainer. The unknown to me is the flight to Portland Maine.

The last ones to try it I believe were Wildcountry Airways with a Caravan and it didn't last 9 months.

Sure Fortis...the market could not support a Dash 8. It then wasn't able to support a Caravan. There will always be those who want to try it and that's OK. Just can't see the market being there to succeed.

Didn't QK do it as part of a YHZ-BOS run (Yarmouth stop both ways) for a period of time?

PAN AM were looking at that run a few years ago ,Yarmouth to Boston using their Jetstreams. The numbers looked good and if they get their OC back Starlink may have some competetion.
When AC ran a DC-9 out of there they connected 31000 pax a year .When they switched to a Dash 8 the numbers fell to 19000 pax a year. The Vans tried hard but got less than 4000 pax They could not offer connections at Halifax like the big guys could .
If the numbers get high enough expect Westjet in there soon :!: :!: as the Lobster's are the BEST

Pan Am logo, as used by Pan Am Systems (formerly known as Guilford Transportation Industries)Pan Am Systems (formerly Guilford Transportation Industries), is a privately held transportation and airline holding company that controls the following divisions: railroad; transportation related brands; and federally certificated airlines.

[edit] Divisions

[edit] Pan Am Systems railroad
Pan Am Railways (formerly Guilford Rail System), a regional freight railroad network that covers most of northern New England

[edit] Pan Am Systems certificated airlines division
The defunct fully certified airline, Pan American Airways, which was relinquished on November 1, 2004.
The formerly certified airline, Boston-Maine Airways, which operated charter and scheduled passenger airline services between the northeastern United States and Florida and the Caribbean under the Pan Am Clipper Connection brand. In February 2008 the US Department of Transportation proposed the revocation of Boston-Maine's air carrier certification, as it "is not financially fit and does not possess the managerial competence to conduct any air transportation operations and has failed to comply with the regulations governing its operations." [1] Services ended February 29, 2008.

[edit] Extended History
The rebranding of Guilford Transportation Industries to Pan Am Systems took place in March 2006.

Pan Am Systems is privately owned by Timothy Mellon, an heir to the Mellon banking fortune in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and several other stakeholders.
